Arduino Nano Matter based device won't add to Hubitat

Just saw your reply, and added some notes about Thread Mesh Extenders, which are apparently a thing.

Also - This thread gets to your question: https://www.reddit.com/r/Thread_protocol/comments/13lks3v/mesh_extenderrepeater/
I guess is depends if the Ardinuo Nano is a Minimal Thread Device - Aka is it expected to be battery powered. But I haven't seen any docs to clarify that one way or another.

Thanks for the additional information. Sounds like we have another new term to add to our Home Automation vocabulary - "Thread Mesh Extenders"

@JasonJoel - Here is the latest data. Looks like there were two dropouts yesterday. I do not have an explanation for either one of these events.

Mine's a bit less impressive. Since moving it to a room way from the Amazon Echo I'm seeing random dropouts a lot.

Just as a follow-up here to @JasonJoel and/or Dan @ogiewon

Did either of your ever get the Nano-Matter to pair with HE under a multi-admin scenario? - Any firmware updates to resolve this?

I was considering a Christmas gift, but wanted to see if this device is finally playing nicely with HE, or it's still a one-trick pony...

I did not, but didn't circle back and try harder either.

Same for me. I am not sure if Hubitat's recent addition of supporting Matter Bridges will solve this issue with the Arduino Nana Matter or not.

@GuyMan or @JasonJoel or anyone else who might still be following along with this thread. Wondering if any of you have made any progress?

I decided to dust off my Arduino Nano Matter microcontroller, hoping that a year of Hubitat and SliconLabs upgrades might have made things a little more compatible. I had rebuilt my main Windows PC earlier this year, so I am now running a fresh copy of the latest Arduino IDE, SiliconLabs board support package, and example code.

Unfortunately, it appears that nothing has changed, even though Hubitat did improve support for Matter Bridge devices. I am still using Apple Home devices (AppleTV 4Ks and a HomePod Mini) as my Thread Border routers. I also have an Aqara M3 hub that is also part of the same Thread mesh network, so it is also another TBR.

@bcopeland, I am still getting stuck at the same spot in the Matter pairing process on a C8 hub, running the very latest 2.4.3.144 platform. Any chance you could help debug this, when you want a break from Z-Wave for a little while?

I let it sit at the above screen for about 10 minutes with no changes noted nor anything in the Hub's Logs. I was able to pair it with Home Assistant with no issues afterwards.

Would love to get this issue resolved for the device DIY folks.

Thanks!

Honestly, I have not tried, as there looked to be a bunch of firmware updates needed on the Arduino side - This is on my list for playing with over TDay or XMas break. - Life (and work) keep taking my important HE cycle time.

I was hoping that Matter V1.4 on a the new Apple TBRs running HubOS (or TVOS) V26 would straighten out some of the last Matter provisioning issues.

I DO plan to provision the Arduino Nano Matter on Apple Home as a 1st step, then generate a code for HE provisioning (That's how I've onboarded all my Matter stuff, just to keep things in a single Matter network. I'm not sure if you have your device already provisioned in Apple, or you doing a full initial join via the HE app on your phone (as that's now a possibility) - Actually, I would recommend trying both.

But overall, sorry, no haven't made any progress, and sounds like your leading the way (it must be nice to be retired and have time to play with this!

Keep us posted!

I'll be frank - after pairing my Arduino matter test device worked immediately on home assistant I just left it on home assistant.

I might try to pair it again to hubitat sometime though, if there is interest in hubitat's side in making custom/dev matter devices work. If it is too low a priority to dedicate time/resources on that though, I would fully understand.

Unfortunately, all of my Apple TBRs are still at v1.3, even after upgrading everything to xOS v26. Perhaps it is because my Aqara M3 hub, which is part of the same Thread Mesh network, is at TBR v1.3 as well? Not sure... Are your Apple TBRs at v1.4 after the xOS 26 upgrades? I upgrade all iPhones, iPads, AppleTVs, HomePod Minis, and Macbooks to the latest and greatest versions recently, and still my TBRs are at v1.3.

My Arduino Nano Matter (Thread) device was easily paired with my Apple Home. I just cannot share it with Hubitat. Sharing it with Home Assistant works without any issue. I cannot directly pair the Arduino Nano Matter with Hubitat, as Hubitat hubs do not have a Thread Radio onboard. I have successfully shared a Third Reality Matter over WiFi Night Light from Apple Home to Hubitat without issue. However, that device 1) does not use Thread AND 2) is not implemented as a Matter Bridge device.

Thanks. It is nice having the time to mess around with stuff like this. But it is hard to troubleshoot a 'black box' (i.e. Hubitat's Matter implementation.)

I just found this thread (pardon the pun) after getting my first Arduino Matter sketch working. I got the new Arduino Nesso N1 device. It is a really neat device with case, battery, display, buttons, etc.

As other folks have noted, I also can't pair the matter device to Hubitat. I'm using an old SmartThings hub as the matter TBR and commissioner. I can share the device from SmartThings to Alexa with no issues, but my C7 hub never completes the pairing.

Hopefully this will get sorted out soon...
