Aqara FP2 released

I have two FP2 sensors. One had the new update available, the other didn’t. This was when I would select each device, and the. Go into its settings to see if a firmware update was available.

Instead, if I select ā€œProfileā€ (bottom right corner of the Aqara mobile phone App), and the select ā€œFirmware Updateā€ (upper left) - both FP2 sensors showed up as eligible for the firmware update.

Hope this helps others.

Note: I am not using the new firmware on my main FP2 sensor. It has been working great and I don’t want to be an early adopter. I did install on my other FP2 that I am still prepping to use in a different location in the house. I was able reconfigure this device to have the FP2 mounted in a corner up on the wall. This is a welcome enhancement.

I tried looking in the profile as well and it still didn't show, but thanks for the tip anyway. I guess I'll just have to wait.

Same. I have 4, 3 of which updated, but one was on an earlier firmware, and updated to a newer one (1.2.3.0005.0066), but not the latest (1.2.5.0003.0072).

Well, I tried the upgrade again today and this time it worked. Maybe it can only do one upgrade per device per day…?

Mine shows 1.2.5 available, but what am I really missing out on by staying at 1.1.9? Are you guys finding it's just so much better now?

I'm again hesitant since there's no rolling back. My FP2 is working perfectly and I never have to reboot it anymore. Would upgrading take me to a new level I never dreamed possible, or simply set me up for an eventual Aqara paywall?

There are some features in the new version that allow the user to see from the app some more information (number of people being tracked and total number of visits). These functions will likely be subscription in the future… so I wouldn’t get too attached to them. Plus, I don’t know that they are available outside the app…

Yesterday, 1 out of 4 had the update available. This morning, the other 3 were available. No rhyme or reason. :man_shrugging:

I'm still waiting, but it is looking promising from others experience... Probably take a little longer to reach us down here...

Were those 3 on the last firmware, or a prior one?

In my case, the one that wouldn’t go to the latest was 2 versions behind. Yesterday I could only update to the last version. Today, I could update it to the latest.

The angle refers to placing the device in a corner of the room. The grid will be shown in the corner of the room; options are "left" and "right", as well as "wall" (the single mode previously supported).

They were the last firmware.

I eagerly jumped straight in and updated after reading what it brings to the table, but so far, I can’t see the option to place in a corner if I were to change my current one and I’ve also experienced quite a few black outs in the kitchen when myself or a couple of us have been in there.

I’ve noticed it appears to happen if someone moves from one zone to another, but it’s not all the time. I’m a little gutted that I jumped for it straight away, as the last update was really smooth and had no issues with it

Well there goes my theory!

In the Aqara App, when you select your FP2 sensor, you can go into "Zone Management" and then click the top right icon to NAME and SAVE your current Zone configuration. Verify the zone config was saved by looking for it under the lower left "Template" icon. You'll want to have this template available for later.

To change the location of the FP2 to a Corner, go back to the main page for the FP2 sensor, then click the top right corner 3 dots menu, then Device Settings, and then Detection Mode. Make sure Zone Detection is selected, and then click "Install Now". You will be prompted to "Reinstall" the device. Choosing to do so will allow the choice of the FP2 location. Keep working through the menus and then select the Template you saved earlier and Apply it.

NOTE: I have only done this with a FP2 sensor that I do not have connected to anything. Thus, I am not sure if the device will stay connected to HomeKit, Alexa, Google, or Home Assistant through this process. Please proceed with caution!

That also happened to me when I went to update all of mine yesterday. I had one (purposely) using the original firmware and it only updated to 1.2.5_0003.0066. Today it says it can now be updated to 1.2.5_0003.0072.

I have read, admittedly on Reddit, that firmware updates are made available in batches based on serial number, to reduce the load on the aqara servers. Could kind of make sense for what people are seeing, still not an ideal approach IMHO.

@ogiewon thanks. I might have a look at that. I originally wanted to mount it in the corner of the kitchen, but to be fair, where it’s been for the last 9 months (on top of a kitchen cupboard at one end), has been fine and worked really well. It is mounted above the recommended 1.8m height, but that doesn’t seem to have effected anything.

I know exactly what you mean. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" definitely seems to apply to the Aqara FP2 sensor. So many stories of others who have nothing but problems. Mine has been about 98% reliable. Every once in a while I have to power cycle it, and then it starts working again. But that has only been about 2-3 times since I first installed it ~9 months ago.

Shiny surfaces seem to play havoc with mine.... Need to find some time to work through it more thoroughly.

Not liking the new update (affecting the wife approval drastically). The lights are going on and off multiple times, and there doesn’t seem to be any consistency with it either. Can be several of us in the kitchen/dining area, and they will just go off. Someone then has to move around in order for them to come back on, but even then, they don’t always.

It’s a real shame that Aqara don't offer options to backup your current software version (like HE) before you update, to be able to revert back to a version that best suited to your needs of you’re not happy with the newest update.
