One thing I've noticed is with each release, the placement becomes more and more important. I've always had this way up near the ceiling in the center of the wall, tilted down a bit. With the previous version, it really wasn't working too well. Then with the latest firmware, it didn't even see us when sitting still or if we had our chromebooks on our laps.
I decided to go through the setup again and see if that helps. This time I put it in the corner of the room, 5 ft high. WOW, what a difference! This is in our living room and it's about 10ft x 15ft. This thing sees the entire room without missing a thing.
Now I need to move the one in the Kitchen and Master Bedroom, lol.
So as said before... placement, placement, placement is most important.
@bptworld I originally wanted to mount this on the top of a unit in the corner, but would have been a challenge to set the layout correctly, so opted for the same height but at one end of the kitchen, looking over both the kitchen and dining area.
The problems I’ll have with the height are; 1. The corner I’d like to mount it, below the cabinet is where we have a lot of things stored, like the microwave, so that would be an issue. 2. The other corners I have don’t have any power near them.
I’m going to have to have a good think about where it’ll be best placed. Thankfully, I’ve never mounted it properly, just with masking tape over the base, so I could move it easily if needed, without having loads of 3M tape marks left everywhere or screw holes that would need filling in
This has been a complete failure for me and most of the time I have it unplug. I have mine on the ceiling in the middle of the room. However, After reading this post I will try again and just update the unit to Ver.0072 . I hope this works out with this upgraded version.
Well, after updating the version to 0072 and removing the device and fresh reinstalling device with Aqura. It seem to work at this time on the aquara app.
Since I was using HomeKit I had to sycn Aqura zones to HomeKit, which has support within the Aqura app. I also had to double check the naming scheme was correct in the Aqura and HomeKit.
So far so Good !!
Again. thanks to all that took the time to keep this post current
I found this thread via google, searching for Aqara FP angle mounting.
At the moment, I have 2 FP2 running with the normal wall mounting.
The new angle mounting looks interesting.
How does it work, do I need an adapter ? Because as far as I know, I can mount the sensor only "normal" and upside down. But for the corner mounting, I have to turn the sensor by 90°.
To change the location of the FP2 to a Corner, go back to the main page for the FP2 sensor, then click the top right corner 3 dots menu, then Device Settings, and then Detection Mode. Make sure Zone Detection is selected, and then click "Install Now". You will be prompted to "Reinstall" the device. Choosing to do so will allow the choice of the FP2 location. Keep working through the menus and then select the Template you saved earlier and Apply it. (Posted by: @BeardGoggles88)
The firmware has to be 0072 or higher to change camera position in the software. As far as mounts, I sure you can find a bunch of kits on Amazon or the web.
I have read that updates are rolled out in phases, but by serial number not region or server. I just checked and only 1 of my fp2's was showing as needing the latest update. Hopefully the others will soon.
New firmware update available...
Note: I am now on China Mainland region as I have purchased a Chinese version of Aqara M3 hub.
Also, the two FP2's have been working great in my bedroom and hallway.
Does that mean you can use the new fan-dangled "knob" they released ages ago in China? Any chance you could pay for one on our behalf for testing purposes?
Yes, that knob looks really cool... I will be happy to test as long as you provide the test unit so that I don't need to explain to my wife why I've purchased another smart product
