Last few builds have left me unable to add devices via smart start since the app seems to think I'm on a remote connection to my hub. Both are on the same subnet using Unifi UDM Pro SE. This has never been an issue up until recently. Please advise...
If I log in through the legacy app connection is detected properly, I don't believe this is a network configuration error?
Yes, the IP matches. I can access all functions of the app except for the add devices. App home page indicates cloud connection even though it should be direct/local.
Same dilema here.. did just have local access but upgraded app 11/22/2024 and now i am back to cloud access only.. local access has only been available since previous update.. why bother coming out with a new app when it just does not work.. really getting tired of the constant inoperablility of the hubitat platform.. been a user for 4 years..
Should add: using the old hubitat app i do not have a problem.. it has been very stable since its introduction.. i simple do not use the newer version.. if hubitat discontinues the old app and the problems continue to exist i will simply scrap hubitat (200+ devices), not an easy task to migrate..
I've been having this issue with the new app since day one (Android user, C7 hubs, only getting cloud access even while on LAN). I'm happy to share whatever relevant info the devs would like if it would help the troubleshooting process for this issue.
@bobbyD : I decided to do some testing and report data that may be a variable impacting this issue. Maybe we can crowdsource the variables to help you guys figure out and fix this issue???
First, I once again deleted the app. Then I reinstalled the app FROM THE google play account that matches the email associated with my Hubitat.
Result: Still have the issue that it connects via the cloud, but at least the dashboard screen lists my dashboard list instead of returning a blank screen.
Phone: Android Pixel 4a on Android version 13
Phone connection: Connected via wifi to my home network (same one that Hubitat is on).
This gave me an idea. I turned off mobile data so I am only connected via local wifi; phone reports it is connected to the 5 GHz network (Hubitat is connected to same network via ethernet). Then I again deleted and reinstalled the app. It still reports it is connected via Cloud
Sequence & options selected when installing app:
Enter username
Enter PW
Do not select "Remember me"
Tap login
Select my hub (the only one there)
Select my phone that is already listed on the "Create new device" screen
Next I get a pop up screen about Allowing background location permission. Since I do not use Geofence and generally keep location services on my phone off, I attempt to select "Not Now."
Next I get a screen asking to allow Hubitat to access this device's location. I select "Don't Allow"
Next I get a pop up about allowing Hubitat to access my physical activity. I select "Don't Allow"
Next I am asked if I want to allow Hubitat to send notifications. I select "Allow"
Then I get a "What's New" screen
[checking later I learn I now have Version 2.0.7 (281)]
The install is now done, and the app goes to the home screen to report that is connected via "(Cloud)"
Tapping the dashboard icon along the bottom does load my dashboard screen, so again , progress over the blank screen.
Do you mind sharing what network gear are you using? This is likely something specific to the network set up that we just can't replicate. The mobile app sees your mobile device as not on the same network as the hub.
I also have this same issue (no local access) with the new Android app.
Phone: Samsung S23
Hubs: C-3 (primary) and 2 C-7's all on firmware 2.3.9.200
Hubitat Android app 2.0.7 (281)
New mobile app - It has always defaulted to "Cloud" for me. But earlier versions of the app gave me an option to switch to local (on the dashboards screen). It was annoying but at least a workaround. That option disappeared with one of the app updates.
Within the new app, if I go to account, registered hubs, and then connect to hub it connects locally.
I eventually switched back to using the old Hubitat android app so i could have local access.
The old app defaults to "local" when I am on my home WIFI and local access works as expected.
My wife has an iPhone and the new IOS app works fine for local access.
Additional observations from my similar situation:
-I've loaded the new app on three different Android devices (phone, 2 different model tablets). All fresh installs, on LAN wifi, all immediately end up cloud connected, with only cloud options. One of these tablets has never left my house/LAN. I don't recall ever seeing local connectivity at any point on any Android device with the new app.
-On the Android devices, on the dashboard tab, when I attempt to switch to local, selecting a dashboard does nothing (just stays on the dashboard list). When I switch back to cloud, they are selectable again.
-On my wife's iPhone, while the app says cloud connected on the home tab, it provides all local connectivity options. On her dashboard tab, it says local, and provides local control.
-I have three C7s on my LAN. All can be seen by all device apps, no connectivity issues from the app.
Are you using Ethernet or Wireless Backhaul for your access points?
Also worth mentioning, if you are switching between cellular network and the Wi-Fi network, the mobile app doesn't (always) seamlessly refresh the connection. If you switch the connection while the app is open, try force closing the app and reopen.
