I've searched the community and couldn't find anything that could help. I have been able to get all of my motion and open close sensor automatons to work, but none of my lighting automatons (most set to sunrise/sunset with a few off sets). Most of my devices are Zigbee, with a few wifi devices thrown in. Aside from my Kasa devices that I have connected through Hubitat, a half dozen or so are still connected to SmartThings. I have followed several directions from other posts about failed automatons for my similar issue to no avail. I have been using a legacy automation software (Home Control Assistant (HCA)) for over 20 years, but it was sunsetted this year. I switched to Hubitat two years ago per the company's advice, in anticipation of this happening. I first had a C-7, then upgraded last year to C-8. While everything works perfectly with HCA, I have been trying to transition to Hubitat for automations knowing that at some point, the HCA software will fail. I have had no luck with either version of Hubitat to get any automations working that deal with lighting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
2 Things. What channel are your zigbee devices on?
2 Have you gone to each device page to insure that device works?
Greetings and thank you for responding!
- The Zigbee channel is 20(0x14).
- All devices respond either via voice (Alexa) or manual interaction. I have Hubitat sending to HCA via Maker API for all devices, groups, etc., as well as Alexa Skills.
Change zigbee to channel 25. There have been issues recently on 20 and switching up to 25 usually will cure it. Let your mesh settle for 24 hours. Note: You may have to repair a device or two.
Will do. I'll circle back to let you know how things go. I appreciate your help!
I hadn't heard that. Do you have any recommendations for a channel other than 20 or 25?
You can try 26 or 24, I find 25 to be reliable. When I had my own issue I switched my c8 to 25 and my hue to 20 (hue seems to have no problems there) and of course keep wifi at 6 or under.
Thanks for the info. I'm currently looking for posts on channel 20 issues. I would like to understand the problem. I'll keep searching.
I thought there were issues with channel 26. I might give it a try. I only have Sylvania and Sengled bulbs along with some switch and outlet repeaters. It should be fairly easy to troubleshoot any issues.
My primary mesh is on channel 25. If 26 doesn't work out I can look at 24 but will need to limit WiFi as I'm currently letting Ubiquiti auto manage the channels.
Thanks again.
I have AP-AC pros... I just set them manually.
Not sure I'd start with the Zigbee channel until we've established some more basics.
By manual interaction, do you mean physically at the switch itself, or on/off on the device page? I'm curious about your describing it as automations aren't working, but are the devices otherwise working when controlled by Hubitat?
Hi! All of the above, physically, at the switch itself, and on/off on the device page. Yes, the devices are working fine when controlled by Hubitat. Also, all the groups are working as well. When I say "turn on living room," all the lights go on perfectly.
Then your Zigbee channel has nothing to do with it. Show us a screen shot an automation that isn't working, and what the log shows when you Run Actions.
Ok. I will have to force an automation to fire before sunset here, because most are on sunrise/sunset and visa versa.
Great. That's why the Run Actions button is there. If that works and your sunrise/sunset rule doesn't, then we will have ruled out anything to do with the device. But we're not there yet.
I'm not using Rule Machine. I an using simple automations. there isn't a run button. I have to search through logs to see if it fired. I can tell you that it didn't by looking at the lights.
Correct, at least in the US, where it's a low-power channel, and usual advice is to avoid it. Unless you have Wi-Fi going on in the same range, 15 should work fine. Many are using 20 w/out issues, but evidently over time it has been identified as a channel that may potentially have issues.
I'm unable to find anything in the logs. Let me create and run the same automation in Rule Machine. I had used this app previously, but the automations never fired with this either.
Turn on all logging in Rule Machine:
Also, post a screen shot of the entire rule.
Finally, confirm that your time zone settings on Hub Details look correct:
Working on all of the above...
We will grade you on completeness, neatness, and coolness.
(You already have the last one nailed. So far, so good.)
