I've got the same scenario @tonni83 described. Dozens of GE z wave switches around the house, all the sudden stop working randomly. Seems to come back online after disabling z wave radio and re enabling, but that doesn't fix it every time. Zigbee works fine while z wave is down. I have 3 of the zooz 4 in 1 motion sensors. Have you had any issues since removing those?
Yea, those 4-1s are saturating your mesh. You can reduce the load they put on mesh by 2/3 if you pair without S0 but you will need a secondary controller like a uzb to pair without S0. It still might saturate it with multiple 4-1s. This all depends on how loaded your mesh already is, the area they are located, and how many hops. This varies from person to person.
Thanks for the response. I've ordered the SiLabs UZB-7 to try and pair in S2. Is there any way to monitor the load they cause on the mesh? Also, what's the Hubitat preferred motion sensor in case I have to abandon the 4 in 1s?
when the uzb-7 comes in pair the 4-1 with no security. All the check boxes unchecked. This should take care of the s0 security issue.
I have a notify script that emails me whenever a SmartThings 2018 motion sensor pops up on ebay. They are Zigbee and very fast. Updated with version 14 firmware fixes the battery drain issue they once had. I have about 10 of these now and another 4 coming in a few days. They usually list for around 40 or 50 each but the sellers usually will take 30 to 35 + shipping.
I also like the Nyce ceiling motion sensors. They have humidity and temp reporting also and make good sensors for bathrooms. Their batteries are also suppose to last about 5 years on 2 AAA batteries. Several users on here have already gotten over 2 years on them so I would suspect the claim to be better than most. I have 1 in each of the bathrooms to control the fans for humidity.
The iris v2 motion sensors are also pretty popular and much cheaper but I haven't tested these so I just go with what I know works.
Zigbee is much faster than zwave for motion sensors. They are about 4 times faster than zwave. Zigbee time is usually .09 where the fastest zwave is usually around .355.
Ah that's interesting. Got a few of those in use as well - they seem pretty speedy. How do you update the firmware on the devices? Pair with ST and update there?
Yes
