Alexa "Notify Me" Skill

Has anyone used the Alexa "Notify Me" Skill to allow for an Amazon Alexa notification ?

not following? what's skill is that? are you referring to Echo Speaks? I have not used it - I was going to but it seems the setup is quite involved and I found out for a simple notification it was easier to use built in routines

Amazon.com: Notify Me : Alexa Skills

oh ok thanks- wasn't aware ~ thought maybe it was an app on Hubitat ... I'll check it out.

@jtmpush18 not sure what scenario you had in mind ~ but the simple one I was referring to that I use now is a physical motion sensor, to trigger a virtual motion sensor (since the routine can't see the physical one), to have an Alexa routine make an announcement. Sounds like "Notify Me" could do this.

I haven't used it, but did a little research on it. It looks like it offers a decent feature set. However, my biggest concern would be handing over an API Key to a third-party cloud service that possibly grants them a little too much access to my Amazon account...

From their examples, it appears you have to send a request to the 'notifymyecho.com' cloud server.

Thanks - yea just started looking at their site and looks like you need to be running Node Red or tasker, etc first

You don't need any of that stuff, you can access it right from rule machine.

Alexa used to have a notify option for motion sensors where it would broadcast a message to a set of Echo devices.

oh thanks - I've never used the HTTP post, only notification from Rules to Hubitat Mobile app

I installed Echo Speaks years ago and never looked back. I did not consider it to be that difficult to install and use. Yes, I pay $5 a month for the server. But I use many of the options available within Echo Speaks.

I use this ...

Create a v-switch using this driver.
add v-switch to Alexa [Amazon Echo Skill]
Then you can use it to say anything you want in Alexa.

Does anyone use this? I have it installed, but it appears that I do not use it.

Seems very similar to voicemonkey.io and their skill.

I have used "Notify Me" for several years, although I use it within Node-Red and not directly from HE. Didn't know the above HE driver existed till now.

I works reliably and have never had any issues.

I would recommend it.

I use virtual contact sensors to trigger Alexa routines for announcements. Share the device with the Alexa Echo Skill. Played with Alexa speaks on and off but for a limited number of announcements this is easy and completely reliable.
