I need to replace my faulty outdoor motion sensor. As it seems the newer Hue Outdoor motion is NOT compatible with the Hubitat C-8 (pairs but non responsive) I'll have to return to using an internal Z Wave sensor in a Heath Robinson weatherproof enclosure. I'm looking at using an Aeotec model. A multi sensor 6, 7 or Tri sensor 8. A couple of queries for anyone who has them:
1 - Will I be able to pair the Multisensor 6 to the C-8 without security without the need to use PC controller or do I have to use the Multisensor 7 for that.
2 - Are they any good. I'll be using this solely for temperature and luminance.
3 - Is the Tri sensor 8 compatible with Hubitat (built in or community driver) I've just noticed that is Z Wave 800 Long Range.
How long whatever I use will last is anyones guess as invariable moisture will get to it...
I have two Hue outdoor motion sensors one purchased end of 2023, both pair and work without issue on C8 Pro and on my older C7. So may be a range issue try nearer the hub and relink to prove not a range issue before rushing out buying new kit.
If it works perhaps add a range extender or outlet between and try again.
As for Multi Sensor 6 this is pairing as S2 for me no passwords etc needed by default.
Note use Aeon Multi sensor 6 driver, This threw me as the driver used to be listed under Aeotec and doesn't automatically get assigned on re-adding.
I tried the Multi Sensor 7 when it came out but had an issue with motion getting stuck, so returned.
This I think got eventually fixed but worth checking. Note this was a device firmware issue.
I've reset and re-paired several times. I'm in the same room a few feet from the hub. I even tried disabling repeating devices to ensure direct pairing but I get the same result in that it pairs straight away, matches to Hue Motion driver, sends initial values and immediately stops doing anything. Another user had the same issue and it appears to be the newer hardware model when paired to C-8.
If it's S2 then it should allow me to add it without security directly to the C-8 which is what I need. The issue I have with the Fibaro ones are that they're S1 and so Silabs force the device to be joined at S1. I'm tired of faffing around with a Z Wave stick and PC controller to add devices.
Noted - I'll try the 6 from Amazon as it's £30 less than the 7.
I have both an indoor and outdoor hue motion and they both paired and are working great with my C8 Pro. I do have a lot of mains powered Zigbee switches so know the mesh is strong.
Regarding Aeotec multisensors, I used to have 2 v6 in use and removed both. They are extremely chatty devices with constant updates on the Zwave mesh. One went bonkers and started causing issues with my Zwave mesh. I won’t be buying any new ones but YMMV
I have Aeotec MultiSensor 7 in my home, 7 of them and all pair and working successfully on latest firmware as of today. No issues. C7 hub. All mine are powered with POE, no batteries.
I have had no issues with several Aeotec Multisensor 6 devices with both C7 and C8 hubs but trying a Multisensor 7 today has been hopeless - will not include. I've tried multiple options, reset to factory and it never starts to pair. There are at least 2 different sets of instructions to pair it and references elsewhere to firmware issues with motion sensing.
Not worth the pain - I'm back to a version 6. A disappointing backward step from Aeotec.
Version 6 is extremely chatty on the network. I’ve never had any issue pairing my version 7 MultiSensor devices. Make sure you factory test the device. Then exclude it first, then run an include. If the device is further from the hub move it closer to the hub if you can but in my experience over included devices up to 75ft away from my hub successfully.
Glad they worked out for you but despite several attempts (inc factory resets after exclusions from a hub that was 50cm away) it would not pair. Disconcerting that despite following either instruction link the process didn't really match documentation- eg paring from slow blue flash, wait till it turns yellow and ignore other colours before releasing the action button (moved to a really inaccessible place if using the cheap usb cable). Likely a firmware issue that could be resolved but there seem to have been other issues with the firmware (motion sensing) with this specific gen so I'll take the less expensive 6 as the network traffic hasn't presented as a problem and the 6's have always been responsive.
