Aeotec Dual Nano Switch in detached garage not responding

It also occurred to me that the Hub and it's Z-Wave USB stick might be pointing the wrong direction. So I flipped it 180° to see if it would help. Do you know if the Hub and Stick directional?

I've also been looking at HubConnect, which will likely help, but it seems like it's overkill. Would that help you out?

i have it with zigbee and z-wave, ive turned off hub connect and still doing it.

in the z-wave i and getting some strange readings when clicking save and congfigure on the device

No, it doesn't.

Intermittent reporting/communicating to hub usually means weak mesh, the device is unable to reach the hub either directly or via a lousy repeater. There is also the possibility that other devices make the mesh unresponsive, like some secure devices taking extra time to communicate with the hub (locks for example). And last but not least, some other non Z-Wave related errors may occur, making hub unresponsive at times (seen with Chromecast devices as an example). I don't think there is a common pattern and that these issues are best addressed for individual hubs. Are there any errors in Logs or excessive warn messages for certain apps? If you didn't send an email to support@hubitat.com, please do so.

Thanks ... I just sent an email to support.

The Z stick is omnidirectional. It probably has a couple of nulls but it's unlikely you'd not get some signal in pretty much any direction if you measured it with a spectrum analyzer.

It wasn't clear to me if you ran the Z-wave repair after the addition of the repeaters....did you?

Is there clear line of sight between the repeaters and the hub and between the repeater(s) and nano-switch? And by that I mean no large masses of metal, like HVAC systems, Refrigerators, Metal Garage Doors, Aluminum Siding, etc?

S.

i am using Chromecast beta
and the stange this is both the zigbee and z-wave device stop reportin on/off at the same time and alway work at the same time

Good news about the Z stick, since I'm kind of limited on where in the office window I put it.

I did run the Z-wave repair and I think it helped a little, but the response time is generally still a few minutes. This compares to less than a second for devices inside the house, close to the hub.

Also, there is a clear line of site to the repeaters from the hub. Although, the signal does have to go through the outside wall of the garage, including vinyl siding, sheathing and 3/4" drywall, but no metal, except for the wiring to the plugs. Inside the garage there is a clear line of sight from the repeater to the nano switch. I've also experimented with plugging the repeater into different outlets inside the garage.

Each time you move it a repair maybe needed in collect new possible routes to it and it's child devices.

Also what driver are you using?

It's also worth noting, that the device page (and the Dashboard) usually shows the wrong status of the garage switch/lights. For example, right now the garage outside lights are visibly lit. Although, on the device page it shows the lights being off, even after clicking the refresh button.

For the devices inside and near the hub, they always show the correct status.

Thanks, that make sense on the repair.

On the driver, the Aeotec Dual Nano switch Type uses a modified Qubino 2 relay module, that I modified with help from here, since there was no driver available. I really should look to see if there's a new specific driver available for the switch, though.

does it support other reporting eg power? are those messages getting through in the logging?

I just checked and there now is a Type called Aeotec Dual Micro Switch. I assume that would be a better driver, right?

image

Yes it does support the power/energy reporting, on each of the two nano switches in the device. The log below, though, is only for switch 1, which is the inside garage lights.

when the on/off is unresponsive, are power reports getting through?

Just a couple of other things ...

We’re these devices paired with Zwave setup to use “secure” for ALL or just LOCKS ??

Have you tested with the “Chromecast Beta” app set as DISABLED to ensure the Hub is not to busy to respond to all requests / commands.

Yes the power reports do eventually get through, with no errors.

With respect to my system, I didn't do any special security for the devices. When I installed the Aeotec Range Extender 7 it offered "S2" security, but I didn't use it.

Also, I do not use Hubitat for any locks. FYI, I've been using a Kevo Smart Lock for my garage door deadbolt, with an internet connection, which works ok.

Just wanting to know if your Hubs Zwave settting was set to Secure as it adds lots of traffic to the messages between the Hub and the Devices.

I don't think so. Is this what you're talking about?

No. Go to Settings and then the Zwave tab...

Set it to "Locks/Garage Doors" in the drop down.
