Would this allow me to display status of HSM on the dashboard without the clickable menu to select mode? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this with no success.
This actually already exists. Not sure if it ever got documented. But what you need to do is pick the device "HSM Status" and a template of "attribute" and in the Attribute Name, enter "status"
This will display the current state of HSM without the popup menu.

Hmm, just tried it and worked for me. Feel free to pm me the layout and devices json from the side menu "i" bottom right. Just copy and paste the data in a PM
Does the HSM tile and template work for you just as a baseline? They pull from the same data?
Also, what version are you on?
My fault...I was wanting to display the Mode (Read-only) and not the HSM status.
I havent yet migrated the house Secuirty Mode across from STT yet..
I believe the same process works for modes as well. Will confirm in the morning.
