2.2.3.118 - GE Smart Fan Control and Alexa

Yeah, it sort of makes sense. If Alexa doesn't match up the query with a device name correctly, it assumes "fan" means you want to do thermostat control. The mystery is why it can process "Set Bedroom Fan to Low" and "Set Bedroom Fan to High" but not "Set Bedroom Fan to Medium".

Yes, I am having this "I''m not quite sure what went wrong" (nothing WENT wrong, so I can understand why she's not quite sure!) issue with my garage door, using the MyQ Integration. Or is there a whole other thread for this issue with garage door openers that I missed?

Yeahhhh....sorry, I'm not changing home spyware device horses at this point given the amount of Alexa and Alexa-enabled devices I already sunk money into (including my Sonos system), at least not over a garage door command nit.

Thank you. I upgraded my hub a couple days ago and also having this issue. GE and Zooz switches and one GE Fan switch. All having this issue suddenly after the upgrade.
If the answer is already here, I haven't found it yet. If it's still pending please let me (us) know.
Thank you so much.

FWIW If you treat the fan as a standard dimmer (use the Generic ZWave Dimmer driver) Alexa seems to like it better. Commands like "Alexa, set the bedroom fan to 50" works fine on both of my GE fan controllers.

Thank you so much.

I'm having this problem as well. I think it's because my Leviton DZPD3-2BW Decora Smart Plug-in Dimmer is being identified as a fan controller. Alexa is confused because it must send back different codes.

I also asked for the word "MY" to be said when in ANY room with say a "fan", instead of Living room fan.
If your Alexas are in every room it should distinguish which speaker and which devices, lights or fans are in that room and turn on/off with the word "MY".
Guests dont know the names of every room, so this idea would be great IMO.

Fan issues still causing " I'm not quite sure what went wrong" from Alexa.

This has been an issue since Aug of last year and IS GETTING REALLY ■■■■■■■ OLD!

The problem had cleared for a while for me. But I have been getting it again, not just for fans but also for my hue lights.

I just started having the “I’m not sure what went wrong” issue with Leviton Fan controllers. I switched the devices to generic z-wave dimmer and it has not resolved the issue. Anyone figure this problem out yet?

@bcopeland reported last August that there was a known issue, and updated in November that

Perhaps he can give us another update soon.

I have this issue with virtual shades. I use them to control my actual shades, but I have to make Alexa routines as a buffer so as not to get the I don’t know what went wrong message.

Now, every echo Dot does a red ring report when I command the fan.

Why isn't there even an indication of a care to resolve this with a 115 reply thread for a year besides a "am tracking it down" half a year ago?

I have to agree with your apparent frustration. It has been eight months since Hubitat staff acknowledged the problem. They haven't provided any update whatsoever despite being tagged a couple of times requesting an update. This is not typical.

Add me to this list a new Hubitat owner.

@bcopeland any update on this? Even an update of "No, Alexa doesn't want to work the way we all think it should work" would be helpful to know.

@jwetzel1492 It's not an Alexa issue, as Alexa+SmartThings works just fine with these fan controllers. Until this is fixed I am using my SmartThings hub to control these devices and linking my SmartThings and Hubitat hubs together using HubConnect. It's a little laggy but it works.
