2.2.3.118 - GE Smart Fan Control and Alexa

Isn't turning that option on the solution? I get the same results that you do if I turn it off.

If I switch that option on, Alexa starts understanding "turn on the fan" and "turn off the fan", but then she no longer understands "low", "medium", and "high". I have to tell her speed in percentages.

I can validate @jwetzel1492 's findings but have a few weird responses for specific requests. See below for my full testing.
Tested 17NOV2020 0826 on 2.2.4.139

Use Level Control On
Turn Fan On - OK
Turn Fan Off - OK
Set Fan to On - OK
Set Fan to Off - OK
Set Fan to Low - OK
Set Fan to Medium - I don't know how to set the fan to this setting
Set Fan to Fast - I don't know how to set the fan to this setting

Use Level Control Off
Turn Fan On - I'm not quite sure what went wrong
Turn Fan Off - I'm not quite sure what went wrong
Set Fan to On - OK
Set Fan to Off - OK
Set Fan to Low - OK
Set Fan to Medium - OK
Set Fan to Fast - I don't know how to set fan to that setting

Same here, except Set Fan to High works

It's a wonder this hobby doesn't drive us all out of our f*ckin minds. With level control on, telling Alexa to turn fan on/off/low/high works fine. Telling her to set it to medium says "OK, here's Ecobee+. Which thermostat do you want?".

LOL, yes. My impression is this is a corner of Alexa that's all spaghetti code behind the scenes, and @bcopeland is trying to figure out a magic combination that works around Alexa's deficiencies.

Alexa has some strange ideas of what directives a fan should have.. And they don’t jive well with the hubitat capability.. So this falls into the world of their custom mode controller, which is an odd thing to code for.. But based on the feedback.. I now have an idea on what’s going on and am tracking it down.

Ok I thought that was just me. She was really pissing me off with that.

Me and her argue all the time.. Probably the most common thing I tell her is "Alexa shut the **** up!"

She has too many opinions.

The last time I did that she told me that "that wasn't very nice...", both the wife and daughter got a good chuckle.

Did this in the AM it worked for awhile. But now when I say Alexa, turn on the fan it turns on my HVAC fan. Anyone else having this issue?

So during the beta I had tested the fixes and they seemed to be working well.

Out of nowhere alexa started giving me the device not responding response again. I have not had a chance to really dig in and test so had not said anything.

My hub is still on beta fw number. Any one else notice the behavior revert?

@ogiewon I know you were watching this. Is she still working properly for you?

It's still not quite right. Last night I did some experimenting and saw similar behavior to what others have posted above. It does seem as though Alexa is really picky about the verbiage being used for FAN devices. I am actually running a long duration Zigbee test on my main C3 hub which has the Alexa integration. Thus, I am still running a slightly older version of 2.2.4. Thus, my current results could be a function of the version I am running. I am therefore hesitant to comment much more until I upgrade to the latest and greatest version. I am hoping that 2.2.4 will significantly resolve most of the C7 Z-Wave issues that have been consuming @bcopeland so that he'll have a little more time to focus on the Alexa integration. Since it still works, even with the somewhat annoying Alexa response, I am patient... I know Bryan will get to the bottom of this eventually.

During the Beta testing, I did notice that if the "Use Level for Fan" feature was enabled, that the Fan devices did not show up correctly in the Alexa mobile app on my iPhone. I could not manually control them from the Alexa UI. Has anyone else observed this?

So do we just "untoggle" what we did until there is a proper fix?

These will have to do for now. Thanks for finding these out. I don't want my AC fan to keep coming on and off

I find myself doing this a lot because proximity stopped working a while ago, and from my office I say to turn on the fan, and two other rooms say something went wrong, another asks me which fan, while the one in my room doesn’t respond at all — while it is only 1ft away from me.
I have a friend at Amazon and am finally taking up his offer for a contact to report this issue.

Hey @ogiewon

I decided to remove my fan from the hubitat alexa app and re add. Before the removal my fan showed as a fan properly. Now after re adding it back I get the same screen I saw you post in a ss somewhere. Looks kinda like my cameras as well.

Alexa did however decide to start behaving when controlling my fans again after the switch.

Maybe has something to do with the way @bcopeland implemented he said alexa's fan expectations are wonky so he went down a custom route I believe.

Oh the "I'm not quit sure what went wrong" is just not fans.. I get this with Lights also. Not just switches, but plugs too. If I tell Alexa to turn on a light the light will come on, but she will say "I'm not quit sure what went wrong" . This is more than an Fan issue, but my fan also does it.

I have gotten that Ecobee response, but I heard for the first time maybe 6 weeks ago. But definitely before this Level control change occurred.
