Zwave setup not working with Zooz devices (C7)

Trust me on this one.. It should be much better on 156. I have a very large z-wave mesh that has been operating on this code since this weekend.. There are dramatic performance gains on z-wave.

My only advice is do mains powered first.. And move from the hub outwards.

thanks for this discussion!!! I was already able to pair all of my switches and dimmers unauthenticated but if I have trouble should I just do the S2 unauthenticated?

Do you mean S0 or no security?

S2 the last checkbox option

That’s S0

Ah okay thats interesting. My switches/dimmers are unauthenticated. I've paired like 90 of them between my house and my clients.

I have had trouble on occasion but not as bad as @pro75357 it seems.

I want to believe.

I'll keep slowly adding devices and see how it goes. I do think one of these switches may be bad, but it is always a different switch that acts up I don't know what to do. Perhaps Zooz support will have some diagnostics or other ideas. I'm done for tonight though.

For anyone reading - a summary of what I've learned:

  • For my Zooz switches and dimmers, S2 unauthenticated seems to be the best way to include them. After including one, give the thing a few minutes to percolate.
  • Always exclude the switches (even if they were already excluded before) RIGHT before including them.
  • Adding them too quickly perhaps jammed up the radio. The radio seems to be VERY particular about being busy.
  • Even if it seems to not include, give it a few minutes then check the Z-wave details. It may be there as a generic device.

At least using these methods I am able to get my Zooz devices included. Time will tell how well the automatons work and such.

and perfectly fine for switches

Actually, doing any major manual operations (repair, include, exclude) while the Z-Wave stack is fully occupied seems to jam things up. I’ve found it best to have a live log page open in another tab, or on another screen, while doing include/exclude/repair so that you can avoid the busy states.

 this!

I only found this thread last night and finished reading today.

I do not have any zen23/24 but I do have zen21/22/26/27.

Doing an exclude does not factory reset these switches. On these you have to tap-tap-tap&hold for ten seconds on the upper padded until the little blue light flashes.

Again I don’t know if this applies to zen23/24.

Yeah the toggles are different. So the official way appears to be quickly toggling 3 up for adding or if issues then 3 times down for exclusion then 6 or 7 up to add.

In my experience 3 times down seems to be the most reliable method (for including/excluding) barring a firmware change I guess.

I have to report back - just reincluded a flaky Zooz dimmer (Zen24) that was kind of on the edge mesh. First tried S2 unauthenticated and could not get it to pair at all. Then paired unauthenticated (no checkboxes) and it worked.

Firmware (on switch) different between this one and the ones that pair S2 Unauthenticated?

Thats a good question.. its a V3 dimmer with firmware 3.6. I have not yet updated the firmware.

Sorry for the double reply - I had not tried pairing any switches or dimmers S2 Unauthenticated until today - which failed. The switches were bulk purchased so are all the same. I have updated a few with the 4.1 firmware but have not tried to re-pair them as such.

How do you update the firmware? I'm adding a few more tonight and am starting to run into issues again. This time with one dimmer in particular.
