Zwave operational on partial devices

For the past 3 days, coincidently with the latest hub upgrade, I am only receiving notifications from a few devices. Locks and Lutron devices are not generating notifications.

I have rebooted the hub a few times. I also have this error message displayed for the past 2 days.

Any ideas on what I must do to get back to full service. Norman

Are you on the latest platform?

The hub is currently running 2.3.9164, C-8.

log out of the app on your phone, delete the notification device, then login with the app and recreate it

I'm not certain as to what you mean when you state "delete the notification device"

Also I access the hub from a Pixel8 and an iPad and have the same issue on both devices.

Are you asking me to delete all my notification apps and recreate them

Will this also fix the zwave backup issue I am having.

I did a « clear all events ». Logged out and logged back in. Tried to visualise notifications and rather than seeing the stale notifications I got this screen

No. Log out of the app. Then from your pc go to yourhubip>>devices>>findyourphone(S) and delete. Then log back in and when prompted create the new device. Go back in to your individual notification rules and pick the new notification device.

I followed your instructions, logged out of the app both on my phone and tablet, from my PC accessed the hub and deleted the phone and the tablet from the devices tab. Logged back in from the phone and the tablet to recreate both devices in the hub in question. Then went to the specific Notification apps and added the devices on which I want to receive the notifications and still not working.

Is it possible my issue is related to the unsuccessful zwave backup which I referenced at the beginning of the thread. I still have the same error message today even though I followed the steps you asked me to perform yesterday?

I was trying to resolve your notification issue first. Now change your cloud backup to every 3 days and see if that helps. Perhaps @gopher.ny can look at your engineering logs for clues.

I just repeated the process per your earlier instructions. I rebooted before and after deleting the devices. I seem to have picked up notifications for Lutron integration devices. Added to the GE smart plugs that never stopped working. The notifications associated to the 3 locks are still not working.

I did change cloud backup to 3 days. By all means @gopher.ny is welcome to peruse my logs.

I think we need to clarify the problem. Is the state of the device updating when you change the device physically and notifications are broken? Or is the state change not even making it to the hub, which is a totally different issue but may cause the notifications to stop working since the hub does not know the device changed states. In that case the notification problem is just what you see but has nothing to do with the actual issue. Usually if the issue is with the mobile app it is all or none, so if notifications are partially working I suspect the issue is with the devices, not the app.

If the cloud backup crashed your z-wave radio all you need to do is SHUT DOWN the hub and unplug it for 3 seconds, to bring the radio up again.

For Z-wave device issues here are some tips / instructions:

If the devices are working on reporting state back to the hub correctly and the ONLY issue is the notifications are not working, then here are better instructions for how to fix the app notifications without breaking all of your existing rules (but I think you already did that, sorry :frowning: )

After reading your post, I believe that the state of some devices are not making it to the hub. From the device page if I view a lock the last user is the person that used the lock last week. Not the user of the lock this week. So it appears to me from device pages that the information is not updating on the device.

From what I have just described does a physical power down solve the issue?

I do not have physical access to the hub as paying guests are residing in the space for another 2 weeks. I’ll see if they have availability to get involved to trouble shoot. Thank you.

From your original info that there was a failed backup due to Z-Wave, usually this means Z-wave crashed (or did not come back online after the backup). The current platform is much better at recovering from this situation but a few people still are running into it getting stuck.

That combined with the fact that states are not updating on the devices, I would say your z-wave radio is non functional at the moment. Either crashed, offline, or otherwise stuck.

With that being said, the only way to bring the z-wave radio back is a full shut down and unplugging of the hub unfortunately.

Some people with remote properties have gotten Wifi smart plugs they plug the hub into and connect the plug to whatever app comes with them (not HE), and then they can do a remote "unplug" if needed but doing a shut down from the hub, waiting, then kill the power, wait and then bring it back up again,

The hub, modem, router et all are located in a locked janitorial closet that only the cleaners have access too. The breakers on the electrical panel are labelled. So I shut down the hub and wrote to the guest, whenever he reads me the process will move forward. This is my 4th issue in less than 1 year where a total shut down is required so yes I will install a wifi plug so as not to have to involve a third party to set things right. Thank you

The hub shutdown coupled with the power shut-off has resolved the issue, thank you.

On a prior radio issue, resolution was achieved by connecting the hub directly to the power outlet rather than connecting it through a power bar surge protector. The hub appears to be sensitive to its power source. Can you recommend a brand / model of wifi plug compatible with the hub that would not add other issues to its performance. Thank you

I suspect the surge bar had its own USB ports you used for power? For a smart plug Usually people use a normal line voltage smart plug and then plug the power adaptor and usb cord into that. So it should not matter what brand
Since the adaptor will control the voltage output.

A popular brand however is the TP Link Kasa (and now also Tapo) because they allow local control and can integrate with Hubitat, if you ever do need to control it from the hub.
