Hello everyone. I have a few locks in my house that have been working fine for almost a year and one of them stop working on me. The lock itself and touchpad worked fine, but the Z wave is not. No matter how many times I hit the lock button, the screenshot doesn’t change it just stayed in the unlock mode. It’s really close to the hub as well and have been working fine. Any suggestions for possibly a quick fix?
Z-wave locks need a good beaming repeater between the Hubitat hub and the lock. For security reasons, locks transfer a much greater amount of data than most sensors and actuators. A beaming repeater insures that data is repeated as many times as necessary until all data is transferred flawlessly.
Check the Z-wave mesh details to see the signal path between the hub and the lock, the signal strength and the data rate. That should tell you if you need a better connection to the lock.
Am I able to check that stuff with a C-5?
And you guys definitely educated me on those in a previous post a while back. I have one about 2 feet away from the lock. I have another one about 1 foot away from the hub and I have a third one in between the both of them which you guys told me was overkill, but I used it anyways, the other two locks which are further away work fine and so did this one until this morning. So I’m wondering where else to click and look besides the logs that I posted. I don’t use Hubitat often(I’m. Home assistant guy), only for Zwave stuff so I’m not too educated.
I would exclude it, factory reset it then re pair it to see if that solves the issue. What make/model is it?
Did you do the shutdown and pull power for 30 seconds song and dance yet? This will reboot all the hardware, where a normal reboot only restarts the firmware.
It’s a Schlage BE469ZP. I didn’t reset the hub yet I didn’t want to disturb the other stuff working properly. So I did see the repair option under the zwave page. That wont mess with any of the other devices that are working now?
No don't reset the hub, exlude, factory reset, re pair the lock. That won't mess with your hub. You should only repair individual nodes.
Do not reset the hub or zwave
Did you do this? ![]()
I'm having the same issue with all 4 of my locks. They worked fine for almost a year and stopped working in the last month or two. No response to commands, removed them all, factory reset them all and now they won't even pair. You just get "initializing" followed by a ghost device in the zwave details. Other devices will pair fine, my gut feeling is something is wrong pairing devices with S0 security,
I have no idea what changed, but after hours or mucking around with it I removed them for now.
Are you using a splitter?
A splitter?
poe splitter
POE splitter - power over ethernet to bring power and ethernet to the hub, you'll know it if you have one.
On what hub? C7, C8, C5?
No it’s powered by the micro usb power adapter that came with it. I have a PoE switch though, you’re giving me ideas now
It’s a C7 hub.
LOL...it does make things a little simpler in some ways.
We asked 'cause the C8 has had some Z-Wave issues that might be attributed to using POE splitters, but nothing like that seen on the C7 AFAIK. My two C7's have been on splitters for a year or two.
Are your locks Schlage? Which model number(s)?
Have you tried moving the hub to within a couple feet of the lock when pairing? Opportunity there to use a POE splitter attached to a long ethernet cable...see, I'm on your side. ![]()
They’re weiser: Smartcode 5 Lever Locks. They were detected as Schlage FE599/BE369 by Hubitat and they worked fine previously with that driver. Someone else suggested using the Generic ZWave Lock driver, but I can’t even get them re-paired now.
One of my doors is right next to my network cabinet so I could test right next to the hub, no difference. It’s pretty bizarre.
I know they've been working for a while, but as long as you're trying stuff, getting the hub out of the cabinet (assuming it's metal) will increase likelihood of successful pairing.
It’s on top of it and always has been. Didn’t want a wall of metal around the radios.
I’m totally going to pick one up. That’s a great idea and I also like the idea of being able to cycle the PoE port to power cycle the hub.
Yup - as long as you do a full shut-down first (to red LED) being able to remotely recycle power is a very good thing. ![]()
