Hi,
Whenever i try to upgrade my Hubitat above version 2.3.7.146 i get a weird behavior:
Right after the Hubitat starts the dashboard works fine and when i press a light button the light bulb turns on and the button on the tablet dashboard turns on (indication)
after few hours the dashboard stops updating the light status.
The wall button and the dashboard button do light and turn off the light bulb but the status on the tablet dashboard stays off (legacy dashboard and EZ daboard too)
when i get into the hubitat web and try to enter the light device hubitat just shows a blank white page which comes back after reset to the hubitat.
Its like the hubitat gets overloaded with time and gets stuck.
Additionally, last time i tried that update rule machine stopped working too (guess due to the same problem)
Where do i start checking what's wrong? any help would be appreciated...
Thanks,
Lior.
The logs is the first place to start, look for errors and warning logs (orange and red).
You can filter down to just errors using the drop downs.
Hi, Thanks...
No Errors or Warnings on the log, only info and debug...
Did another restart and a day after dashboard stopped updating again.
I press a button and the light does comes on, but dashboard button stays off...
Check the actual device page, events tab and also the logs.
The device might be getting the message to turn on, but the response may not be making it back to the hub.
Have you ever tried doing a shut down on the hub and unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug back in? This is the only way to restart the radio, a reboot does not shut down the radios.
When the dashboard stops showing the actual status of the device i can't enter the device on the hub too...
I go to the devices page, click on the device, it opens the device page but its empty, blank white, only after a restart i can open the device page.
I'll try unplugging it for a minute and turn it back on.
BTW: if i downgrade back the older firmwaer it start working again but i lose other things...
Press F12 to open the developer console on the browser, see if there any errors being generated.
Are you using any special characters or emojis in your device names that could be breaking it?
Hi, Thanks again...
Turning the device off for a minute to turn radio off didn't help too, still after a day dashboard stops responding and i can't access devices on the hubitat web...
On the developers console no errors are shown when i try pressing the device, still blank page...
If it works for a while after rebooting and then stops I would guess you are somehow overloading your hub to the point it cannot function anymore.
At least a few hours after rebooting get (and post) screenshots of the following. Just get the most you can of the info in one screenshot, don't need any more to start.
Logs > Past Logs -- Filter to Error Level
Logs > Past Logs -- Filter to Warn Level
Logs > Device Stats -- AND Logs > App Stats --- Turn on all options in display settings, Sort by % of busy highest at the top. Include the stats above the table in the screenshot.
Hi, Thanks again...
Trying to pin point and make it easier i've disabled all zwave devices except one and restarted the hubitat, problem is back again with only one device enabled...
attaching screenshots: (last one is the blank page i see after i click on the enabled device)
Highly unlikely it would be a zwave device causing the problem.
I just realized you never said what hub model you have.
Also, you showed device stats, I wanted to see app stats too.
Your hub is quite inactive and boring, does not seem like it should be overwhelmed in the slightest.
@bobbyD or @gopher.ny do you remember what the solution was for the other person who was getting this blank page on the devices page? I don't even know what else to look for.
I've Disabled most of the devices, not much action... (probably not much action even when they are all enabled too
)
Blank page on the devices page is one of the symptoms, i've noticed that the TTS announcement i have is not working anymore (does works after reboot) and of course the Devices status not updating over the dashboard...
Hoping the fix will apply to all problems ![]()
I noticed the Announce good morning "App".
There was a recent issue with the TTS mp3 cache filling the device storage and causing issues, but usually it would be far worse than what you are getting. This would also only impact if you are using a local TTS like Sonos or AirPlay, those generate MP3 files on the cloud and are then saved on the hub to be streamed locally.
Does you TTS announcement constantly change or is it the same thing every time it goes off? If it is always changing it would create a new MP3 each time and cache it.
You could try shutting that announcement off and see if the problem comes back again.
Also 2.4.2.134 is supposed to fix that MP3 cache issue
Its the same thing every morning, its announcing "Good Morning its 7 O'clock" every morning on google nest mini ![]()
I've tried over 10 Hubitat build since version 2.3.7.146 and it happens over all of them and I'm currently on the latest version...
Anyways, i've disabled the rule and rebooted the hubitat to check if that helps ![]()
It was a long shot for that to be it. If it only goes off once a day then it is probably not the issue. You said before sometimes you would start getting the blank page after only a few hours, so probably before the TTS even ran again.
Almost all devices are disabled - turned 3 back on with Generic Zwave drivers to eliminate drivers issues.
TTS cancelled.
Still, pressing a device loads a blank page.
What do i do?
This came up once before that I know of, was almost the exact same issue with the blank device page. I think they possibly ended up doing a factory reset on the hub.
I will see if get staff attention to look at your hub in more detail.
Just for clarification purposes, disabling mesh devices just stops the communication between the driver and the radio, but doesn't stop the actual device to communicate with the hub. Think of it more like hiding the messages from yourself than stopping them.
I checked your hub and nothing stands out to explain the problem. I did notice some of your Z-Wave devices being extra chatty, which could explain the status updates issue, however the blank page could be related to the browser used, rather than a symptom of a hub issue.
Thanks for the clarification, I've tried 2 different computers and my Cell phone and all opened a blank page while pressing the Device...
I've re-enabled the devices so i will be able to operate them with Google assistant but Dashboard still stops updating device status and responding.
Any help or suggestion will be appreciated...
Thanks
