Hello, I need to replace 3 zigbee motion sensors with zwave. I am looking for recommendations on a 700 motion sensor that is hopefully issue free?
Personally, I much prefer Zigbee motion sensors to Z-wave. Currently, Hue motion sensors are my favorites. It seems battery life on the Zigbee sensors is better.
However, I do have a few Z-wave sensors. The Zooz ZSE40 4-in-1 sensor uses the 700 series chip. The others I have use the older 500 series chip, but work find with Hubitat.
I have 3 different zwave 700 motion sensors - here is my opinion in order of preference:
-
haozee/neo coolcam - but it is hard to get other than on ali express, et al, from china.

Zooz ZSE40 700 model are working quite well for me. I wouldn't pick them over the haozee/neo coolcam given equal availability, but availability isn't equal...
Zooz Z-Wave Plus 700 Series 4-in-1 Sensor ZSE40 - The Smartest House -
Ring motion sensor Gen2. Not my favorite - really big and battery life doesn't seem as good on the couple I have, but easy to find/buy.

I have found zigbee sensors to be quicker to respond. That being said I personally have had good luck with the Aeotec trisensor and multisensor, depending on the application. Some folks aren't fans, they've worked for me and I like the mounts. In fact I would say the mount is as important to me as the sensor itself. I LOOOOOVE the old ST mounts, which I think Aeotec has re-introduced.
This one is really good.. I just wish it was more available to buy..
It definitely meets my "mount" criteria. Considering your "nom de hub" is Dr ZWave I would love to hear why you rate it thus.
It's fast, the firmware is good, firmware allows for a lot of control of the reporting, battery is outstanding.
And for the record, everyone knows Dr Zwave is Eric Ryherd.
All, don't get me wrong, my entire house is zigbee motion, iris v2 and Hue motion. I am in a townhoues and my stairwell to my garage is saturated with wifi and my zigbee keep getting stuck. Just looking to replace 3 zigbee motion in my stairs. I like the cool cam, but god only knows how long it will take to get.
As soon as they come back in stock in the US, I'll be buying some more.. Not a fan of shipping from china.. Takes too long..
Great info in that Dr Z-Wave blog. Thanks for the link!
FYI:
Thank you for reaching out.
The ZSE40 has been discontinued and will not be restocked unfortunately. We are in the process of updating the ZSE11 to be on the 800 series chip which should hopefully be available early next year.
Best,

That's a bummer, the ZSE11 is super slow for motion response.
I have 2 or 3 ZSE40s (700 chip) in my "extra crap" drawer.
ZSE11 kind of sucks.
I have four ZSE18's.
Two on USB, and two on battery.
They have been good for me.
I'm using the battery-powered ones in my far-flung mailbox and package bin.
They do better than the zigbee sensors I tried initially. C-8 helps.
