Sorry if this was addressed by I can’t seem to get my google wording correct.
I installed a few of the Leviton ZW6HD dimmers and they are acting oddly.
If I use the device to turn the light on or off the light returns to where I had it previously, usually at 100%. But if I last turned off the light using Hubitat dashboard then when I turn it on via the switch, it turns on to a very low light level.
I’ve used both the built in Generic Zwave dimmer and the User Universal Drivers with no change in behavior.
Previously known issue. I reported it to Leviton long ago, but it got lost in a flurry of stuff with them. I recommend opening a support case with Leviton to raise it again.
I did per your advice. I’m not sure I like these devices. I have a bunch of the older ones and they seem to be rock solid, these new ones have quirks. The other thing I noticed is on the habitat dashboards sometimes have the wrong stares.
I have 6 of those. You have return to the last brightness level selected which is the default I think. I have not observed that because I have mine set up to turn on to a preselected level then from there dim them up or down if needed. Example. Turn on switch. Comes on at 70%. Double tap on for 100% or use the rocker for something else. This is what I think you are seeing. Dashboard dims them to 0 then off. But the minimum dim (1%) is set higher. So when you just turn them on they return to the last level or minimum dim which is where they were left by your dash board when turned off. To fix it. if you want 100% at the physical switch double tap them. Or you can set turn on to some level, Or you can make the dashboard switch them off instead of dim them to off. The universal advanced z-wave dimmer driver exposes those settings allowing you to tune that dimmer to your liking. It does not get along with zwjs. If you are using that, once you have it all configured, return to the generic z-wave plus dimmer driver.
No, it happens with Z/IP using the Z-Wave Plus dimmer as well, just as OP describes. Explicitly setting a level via Z-Wave for the dimmer works as expected, but using the physical switch to turn on (and restore the prior setting) sometimes results in a level of 1%. It's a firmware issue with the device itself, visible with a sniffer.
The device itself also dims to off instead of turning them directly off. The older DZ6HD performs like expected (always return to the last brightness) no matter how they were last turned off (device or zwave).
I didn't use last brightness. Set the start level. If I want full bright paddle on 2x. Dim rate is also settable. Suppose that is why I wasn't bothered by this issue.
