Zse44 smart start fail.. Help please?

C-8 Pro hub. New LR ZSE44 (battery powered temp/humidity from zoos). Tried the process that worked for this person:

First timing trying smart start. What an I missing? I see it on the pending list in the new app. One weird thing, the new app doesn't show me anything else... Am I supposed to see all my zwave mesh devices there? Says I'm connected to the hub and the Web interface is all good. Includes and works on the mesh, so seems the device is good.. Just putting in a basement a little far from the hub so would rather be on LR

My experience is that you sometimes have to do this a couple times, but eventually it will work. The entire experience is what I'd respectfully call "trash" =).

Zooz ZSE44 pairing with Smart Start (LR mode) - #3 by jtp10181 - This is the most important to do list in the thread. You do have to restart the entire hub by pulling power for 15s or so then starting it back up, and going through those steps one by one. A lot of times I had a brand new sensor that still wouldn't work when I put the sensor battery back in, and it would just sit there "pending." If you then go through ZWave exception like it says, it will usually pair by then.

I also would usually get a couple sensors working and 1-2 that wouldn't in a batch, then just start all over again and eventually got them all.

You ONLY see "smart start paired devices" on that screen. So if this is your first attempt, it will be the only one showing.

Pending means it didn't properly connect yet, so go through the entire process again per the bullet points.

Are you on JS or ZIP?

Did you put the battery in only after scanning the code and confirming the SS status was pending?

Sorry.. Dunno what JS or ZIP means. I read all that after messing around. So to get back to zero this is what I did:

Delete pending device
Factory reset zse44
Remove battery
Scan QR, get device pending again
Reset, remove power, etc from hub
Restart hub, verify pending device
Insert battery

That was my most recent attempt...

I did get it to join the mesh and stay connected once I moved it to the basement.. So.. Little less critical. But would perfect LR, probably better for it's location.

I've never had to mess with the hub for SS (in terms of restarting it or removing hub power), but it sounds like it's now at least working in mesh, so that's good.

There have been a few hardware versions of that device, and not all have been LR - are you sure you have an LR-capable model? I ask since SmartestHouse is also still selling one of the 700-series (non-LR) versions.

You have to watch the logs. The LR might be failing with the bootstrapping error. If you search the forums you will see more about it.

yes. I've got older ones too, but these are the new one... says LR on it, has the QR, etc...

Thanks for the idea. At a cabin I'm not at all the time, so wanted to acknowledge the reply but I'll need to take a look next time I'm there. I can login remote, but probably far enough back in the logs it's easier to repeat the process and put any errors up top in the logs.
