Zooz ZSE44 Not Waking Up?

I'm using the Zooz ZSE44 Temperature Humidity XS Sensor v1.1.0 (driver). After making changes to device preferences, I see the sync status is "8 Pending Changes" and under INFO it shows, "Pending Configuration Changes *** Waiting for device to wake up.**"

Is there a difference between waking up and "checking in"? It appears to check in about every hour and the temp/humidity data updates, yet it continues to show 8 Pending Changes and Waiting for device to wake up.

Will it eventually wake up or should the hourly check-ins allow the updates to happen?

Usually, it takes a number of button pushes to wake up a Zooz battery device...like 5. The manual should tell you this.
edit: Or it wakes itself up, like, every 12 hours or so.
