Zigbee2Tasmota

I often buy stuff for fun and try to find a usage for it afterward. When I saw a eWeLink ZbBridge Pro Ethernet Zigbee Gateway (ZB-GW03) preflashed with Tasmota for only $30 canadian, I said lets try that Zigbee2Tasmota toy.

I would say I was not too impressed. Zigbee2Tasmota revealed itself as being very limited and cumbersome. You need to load individual file for the device you use. If you are not lucky enough to find one already made you are stuck with having to make one yourself (zigbee knowledge required). Also, there is no discovery. Each device have to be configured one by one in the automation system you are using. I liked the fact that it connect to MQTT on its own though. I did not dive too much in it, so it may be less difficult then it appears.

After that, I reconfigured it to Serial to TCP Bridge so I can use Z2M instead. This was way better.

But now... what am I gonna use that thing for...

You can use it with Home Assistant to pair zigbee devices not directly supported by Hubitat. And then, there's a project called "Home Assistant Device Bridge" that was started by a guy called @ymerj to bring these devices into Hubitat for automation ...

P.S. Thank you for making HADB possible!

I have a small cabin 600ft away I seldom "visit" (once or twice a year in summer). It is already hooked to my network for an IP camera. It looks like I will start installing smart plugs and bulbs in it.

Cool, I will be able to flash lights remotely to spook dears and wild turkey. That require a second instance of Z2M but not a big deal with docker.
