Zigbee Radio Not Working

Hello everyone. I have been dealing with an issue with my C-8. None of my Zigbee devices are reporting. I have rebooted the Hubitat. Rebooted and rebuilt the database. Disabled the Zigbee radio. Powered down the Hubitat. Unplugged the Hubitat. Repowered it after about 5 minutes. Reenabled the radio. Tried to readd an already connected device, it didn't discover it. I deleted a device and tried to readd it, didn't discover it. I tried to add a brand new Sonoff contact switch out of the box, didn't discover it. I scanned for a Zigbee device just to see if that would trigger something when there was nothing to pair to. I have changed channels and power settings. Nothing is working. I can't send a command to a device. I have 6 repeaters and 25 devices that have been working just fine for well over a year.
When I do a channel scan, I get this:

Channel RSSI LQI Pan ID Extended Pan ID
11 0 0
12 0 0
13 0 0
14 0 0
15 0 0
16 0 0
17 0 0
18 0 0
19 0 0
20 0 0
21 0 0
22 0 0
23 0 0
24 0 0
25 0 0
26 0 0

It gives me a Pan ID and an Extended Pan ID. Radio states it's online. I rebuilt the network 12 hours ago and still can't even add a new device.

Platform version
2.3.9.166

I have no warning and nothing stating that there is an issue with the radio. I don't know what else to try. Thank you in advance

It is possible the radio may be toast. Go to support.hubitat.com and click warranty (doesn't matter if it's in warranty or not) and submit a ticket. Leave the id of your hub. Support can look at the engineering logs. Be aware though, some staff is on vacation so there may be a small delay before someone from support gets to you..

Long shot, but don't use POE solutions. I had odd ball C8 radio problems until moving back to normal USB power.

What channel is Zigbee set to? Try channel 25, power 8 or less.

Also as mentioned, check your power supply and cable, use the OE or equivalent 1A USB-A dedicated power block. For testing do not use any sort of power strip with USB port or PoE splitters.

I use the OE power supply plugged into an APC UPS. I did change it to channel 25 and dropped the power down to 8 upon your recommendation. I believe I was on 18 before with the power set to 20.

And... still not working? I would try pairing something on the new channel.

Can / should try a different USB power brick.
2amp would be good choice many people have found that changing out the power brick seems to help.

I was able to re-add one of my motion sensors. My channel scan shows some info for channels 11 and 25 now:

Channel RSSI LQI Pan ID Extended Pan ID
11 -63 148
11 -60 160
25 -71 116
25 -13 255
25 -81 76

I am able to add my devices back in now. I'll see if it acts up again in the next couple of days.

Thanks for all of your help.

Channel 25 is good because its on the edge of the Wifi spectrum so you really only get some interference from Wifi channel 11. Also, for power, less is more, more power = more noise. You also can run into an issue where the hub has more radio power than devices, for example the hub can reach a device but the device cannot reach back to the hub. Someone else explained it better somewhere on here but thats the gist of it. So keep the power at 8 or less unless you have a far away device that wont work without the power being higher.

Hello. Did you ever find a solution. I have exactly the same problem with the Zigbee radio as you described in your opening post. I have tried all the advice in the forum and this thread, but the radio will not see any Zigbee device. It has been working for a year and this is the third time the Zigbee radio has stopped working. In the past I have left the hub unplugged for 24 hours and that seems to fix the problem, but not this time. I suspect the radio is faulty, but the hub is out of warranty. I would like hubitat to confirm by looking at the engineering logs but there seems to be no way of contacting them directly anymore.

Well…you could try simply asking @bobbyD, from Hubitat, to please take a look at your hub.:wink::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I did get it working. I don't recall exactly what caused the issue but I believe part of it was the location of my hub and the power settings as I had moved it from one location in my house to a new location and I think that I was hooked on thinking that powering it down and back up created a radio issue. The new location was actually just a bad spot as my house is old and there is a lot of plaster walls with metal backing, a popular method in the 40's and 50's. Moved it again and all was well. Sorry for no response.

I am currently experiencing this. There was no change to the hub, it just stopped working suddenly. All zigbee devices are present but none respond. Channel scan returns all zeros.

So confused right now. Did anyone ever find an actual fix? I might try getting a new power supply but I am just kind of guessing.

Would too many zigbee devices cause this problem?

Did you shutdown and pull power for 1 minute to clear the radios?

Are you using the OEM power supply?

Yes I tried a few variations of this including:

Disable Zigbee , shutdown for 2 minutes, start, enable Zigbee, wait 10 minutes, then rescan channels.

No matter what always same result of all zeros.

Power supply is OEM. I have ordered a new power supply just in case,

While I wait for that I figured I would ask check the forum as I have exhausted all other options I know of to troubleshoot, power cycle or repair. Mostly trying to avoid buying a new c-8 since only the Zigbee radio is currently non-functional.

Did you shutdown, remove power, and then power it back up? Only by removing power from the hub will the Zigbee and Z-Wave radios be fully restarted.

Also, ignore the Zigbee Channel scan. It routinely shows all zeros on my hubs as well, even with Zigbee working fine.

If possible, I would walk around your house and cycle power to as many of your mains-powered Zigbee devices as possible. Just in case one of them is flooding the Zigbee mesh network with traffic, preventing any other device from talking and being heard by the HE hub.

Yes during shutdown I unplug the power for at least 2 minutes.

I have not tried power cycling any of the mains-powered devices. That is definitely worth a shot.

Edit: unfortunately no dice. Next thing I can think of is to do an exclude of the last device I added to see if that helps.

What hub do you have? C5, C7, C8, C8-Pro?

If on a C7, which Zigbee channel are you on?

If on a C8/C8-Pro, which Zigbee channel and what is the Zigbee power level set to?

What was the last device you added, and Zigbee or Z-Wave?

Device: C8
Channel: 20
Power: 16 ( although I tried changing it to 8 to see if that would help. No luck )

Last item paired Zigbee contact sensor. Item before that was a z-wave light switch

Definitely keep the power down around 8 for now...higher power = higher interference and that's not what you want at this point.

Change to Zigbee channel 25 also - that's least likely to have interference w/your (and neighbor's) 2.4 Wifi channels.

Take a look at Logs>Device and see if the newest paired item is showing up there at the top of the list.

You'll want to let things sit for a little while after the Zigbee channel & power changes, so your devices can find their way. Most devices should be fine fairly quickly, but I've had a few that needed a reboot to find their way to the new channel. YMMV...
