I'll be moving to Hubitat C8 Pro from Home Assistant shortly and wonder about Zigbee interference with my home WiFi (channel 2) and the fact that the hub will need to be close to my router due to lack of outlets. Since I only have a couple of Zigbee smart switches and temp sensor devices would I be better off just moving to Z-wave and avoid any WiFi issues with Zigbee? Or maybe I'm overthinking this.
HI, if you are not having loads of WiFi on other channels from your neighbors like in my situation than zigbee will be fine. Else Z-wave, more expensive, less device choices, but rock solid.
I think I'm pretty much alone on my channel so I'll try my Zigbee and if there's an issue I can always go with Z-wave.
Thanks, very helpful answer.
I have lots of neighboring WiFi signals and donβt have any issues with my zigbee devices.
Thanks, good to know. I'm probably over thinking this.
Just keep your wifi under 6 and your zigbee at 25 and you'll be fine
If your zigbee items are performing ok on HA then you can download the Home Assistant Device Bridge from Hubitat Package Manager and bring them into Hubitat and have control over them. That is if you don't want the time of moving them. This also goes for any Homekit, SwitchBot, etc devices that you may be controlling locally through integrations in HA.
You can write all your rules/automations in Hubitat and control them.
I have a Hubitat mesh that has the overwhelming majority of my devices. I have an HA mesh via Z2M that I use for devices that Hubitat doesn't support. I have an Aqara only mesh as well via their hub coming to Hubitat via matter but that is a different conversation. Lol.
If these are zigbee devices, you can move these to zigbee2mqtt.
I have my wifi router literally six inches from my hub in the hall closet, and I do not have any interference issues from that. I use both Zwave and Zigbee. All my in-wall dimmers and fan controllers are Zwave, and a few dimmer plugs, and a couple sensors. Everything else is Zigbee, mostly battery sensors of all kinds, but also outlet plugs, bulbs, and relay boards. I have about 30 Zwave devices, and about 75 Zigbee devices.
They can coexist my house with no issues, even with Wifi right next to the hub.
Thanks, it sounds like I'll be fine. I just ordered so now I can't wait to get my hands on it.
C8. Running WiFi access points on 1,6 and 11. ZigBee on 15, and Hue hub on 20. Lots of ZigBee and z-wave devices with no apparent issues.
They are items in an out building situation so I haven't really been in a hurry. That is my goal though long term to use the second Sonoff Dongle as the main repeaters to the buildings and then move everything over.
Maybe I tend to over analyze situations, but I have always found the Zigbee Channel Scan tool to be helpful in this type of situation.
Long range Z wave.
do a network scan and see how congested the 2.4 GHz spectrum is. if you can set zigbee to a non-congested channel, then go for it. zigbee tends to be cheaper, but i have more z-wave devices in my home as i was choosing whatever was convenient at the time
I have a Hubitat hub located about two feet away from my WiFI router. I have no issues with interference as far as I am aware. My .2.4 gHz WiFi is used solely for home automation devices. All my phones, tablets, etc. use either 5 or 6 gHz.
Thanks, sounds like I'll be OK too.
