Hi, I have a Tuya zigbee light sensor which works in Hubitat but not seen in Alexa (supposed to). I have wifi blinds which can be seen in Alexa. I want to be able to close the blinds after 3pm and when the sun is very strong. I’d appreciate some simply advice as I’m really a novice here Thanks.
Devices aren't added to Alexa automatically from Hubitat. You need to go to the Apps tab in Hubitat, go to the Alexa app within Hubitat, and authorize devices to be used with Alexa. They should fairly quickly and automatically be linked to Alexa, or you can ask Alexa to discover new devices.
From there you will need to make a decision whether to do things within Alexa, or Hubitat. I am not sure what blinds they are, or whether they could be brought into Hubitat, but if you mention the name and model of them, someone may know if this is possible.
Seeing that the blind is only within Alexa at the moment, it probably will be quicker to do things within Alexa, but a lot more limited than doing automations with Hubitat. I don't think you will be able to use all your conditions within Alexa, but I haven't tried this exact scenario.
If you can't bring the blinds into Hubitat natively, there is always the possibility to use a Hubitat virtual device, expose that to Alexa, but do the automations within Hubitat using the virtual device as a proxy for the real blind within a rule. You would still have to do a basic routine within Alexa, but it would be more of a "mirroring" routine (when switch turns on open blind, when switch off close blind). This would also allow you to integrate remotes, the weather, watching a movie, or other inputs if you do the logic within Hubitat.
Thank you for such a quick and detailed reply. I have selected the sensor in the Alexa app and updated it but it doesn’t show in Alexa.
The blinds are wifi, installed through Automate and this communicates with Alexa and I can see the blinds in Alexa.
I’ve tried a virtual switch and I can trigger it with the light sensor and turn it on. Using the Alexa app in HE I can see the switch in Alexa but I can’t select it to run a routine.
I’m thinking whether I can send a voice command to Alexa when the virtual switch is turned on. I just seem to be going around in circles.
Alexa doesn't permit switches to act as triggers for routines. Only sensors (contact, motion, leak) and locks. So you could make a virtual contact sensor in Hubitat and expose it to Alexa. And use activation of the contact sensor as the trigger for your routine.7.03.2023 г.
Thank you. I don’t know how I’ve done it but I have it working roughly using a virtual sensor. Now to refine it.
Thanks for your help.
