Zigbee Device Not pairing...Hub wont see it

I am having issues with a zigbee motion sensor. After Pair and remove, the device will no longer pair with my hub. I have tried to factory reset the device, but did not help. The device is only a few feet from the hub so distance is not a problem. To troubleshoot, here is what I tried:

Powered down hubitat and powered up old smartthings hub. Added device to smartthings with no problem. Device reports just fine. Removed device and powered down smartthings hub. Powered up hubitat and device still will not connect. I have verified that the device is deleted from hubitat but still will not pair.

This is a smartthings motion sensor. I have noticed that when the device is discovered, the led will turn green as it is pairing. It has done this in the past and did when adding to smartthings. Now, when I try to pair with hubitat, the led blinks blue and goes no further. This is not the first device I am having this issue with as I figured I would experiement with another motion sensor.

It seems there is an issue with the database not removing the device info totally but not reflecting this in the device list or any logs.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'd try the following:

  1. Turn off ST hub (just to be safe, likely not getting involved but good to be sure)
  2. Reset the device again (belts and suspenders approach)
  3. Reboot Hubitat hub
  4. Try to pair again

Be near the hub when you try to pair. I have a couple of these left and they are ususally quick to pair, but once in a while can be a little stubborn.

Did as you suggested, still having same issue. LED just keeps blinking a blue 2 blink pattern while the hub is in pairing mode.

LOL...good point, I didn't say it explicitly, but you do want to reset the device again when you're ready to pair.

Could also try removing the battery from the sensor for a bit, and try again.

If it still doesn't work, it's most likely because "kristufer" is such a bad speller.

As mentioned in the other thread it maybe trying to route through a bad repeater like a light bulb.
You might have to power down one router device at a time and try to pair it.
or try changing channels.

Your suggestion worked, but had one exception, had to power down hubitat. The third time I did a shutdown and pulled the power for a couple of mins. Coincidence...who knows...but after it came back up, it did pair successfully.

Nope, you're right, a full power shut down can definitely help when just a reboot does not. @furom was a real dummy not to mention that, after I totally forgot about it.

Damn...going to need three cups of coffee this AM...was kept up all night by a windstorm that was rattling things around something awful from dusk to dawn. Lost a limb! (From a tree, not me.)

Z-wave, yes, but I've had a few of them where battery remove and install was key.

But is your hub on a ups and set up for a graceful shutdown if a limb hit a line? Mine isn't, lol.

How many total Zigbee devices do you have, and how many are repeaters? (Non-Sengled smart bulbs are normally repeaters, but I'd avoid them being in the same hub for other reasons; you can't control Zigbee routing, so even if removing one helps the sensor pair, it's no long-term guarantee.)

The reason I'm asking is that the hub has a 32 device limit for Zigbee "end devices" (non-repeaters). Adding repeaters increases this limit (each also has their own, usually much lower, limit). So even if you don't think you need any for range, you may for network size--but it's a good idea anyway. Just thought I'd mention this in case it might be your problem. You won't get any visible errors; devices just won't pair, so it can be hard to figure out if you don't just know this.

Yes, I re-did all my UPS setups recently, our one desktop computer, routers/cable modems, NAS, key switches, and Hub are all on UPS. I'm safe from the Zombie Apocalypse!

Totally forgot about this potential issue, thanks for the reminder.
