I’m getting ready to retire a few of my Iris contact sensors and was curious if anyone had recommendations on what to get. My only preferences (in order) are reliability, battery life, reasonable price and smaller form factor.
I bought a few of these recently from Ali Express. Same form factor as the Moes Temp/Humid sensors at 1" x 1.6", and they come in black or white. I get about a year on my MOES temp sensor batteries, but I haven't had the contact sensor long enough to use up the battery it came with yet.
I second the Moes recommendation. I have 18 of these deployed in various situations. Have had some a year or longer. Still on the original batteries. None of them have once dropped off my network. If you can wait the couple weeks for AliExpress they truly are worth the money.
I highly recommend third reality. They use aaa batteries and that just makes life so much easier. I'm so over button/cell battery devices. Only down side is their obviously larger then a button/cell devices sure to the side of the batteries.
I have two of these and they do work flawlessly. I use them in a space where size is not an issue for fit or appearance. They work great.
However, I do have a lot of places that they just won't fit or if you can make them fit try due to the size of them they just absolutely ruin the "appearance" of things. That doesn't help with the WAF. So I made my way to the MOES and honestly that will be my go to based on the price.
I agree wholeheartedly with recommendation from @jnosa899 concerning the Third Reality contact sensors. I employ a variety of TR devices, including contact sensors, and find them to be reliable and reasonably priced. Being able to use standard alkaline batteries is a plus, although this does enlarge the case size.
I have also gotten good service from the Moe's devices. Moes is one of the better manufacturers of Tuya-based devices.
Visonic XHS2-TY contact sensor. Does temp as well. I average changing the batteries once a year. And the price? Can't be beat at 4 to 5 dollars a sensor new!
Yeah all the ikea zigbee stuff was pretty reliable, but the zigbee contact sensors (along with most of their zigbee stuff) have been discontinued. They’re all matter now.
