I am having all kinds of issues with my Sengled Contact Sensors (at least two of them). They stop responding to open/close actions but appear to be connected to the mesh (I can see them in the Zigbee Map 3.0 app) and I see entries in the logs when I click on the device "Save" button. The only commonality that I can see that they are using the Sonoff ZBMini as a repeater (after resetting one, it changed routes and is working now). The other one (Laundry Contact Sensor) will not reset or repair. I also have 2 other Sengled Sensors that seem to work just fine except that they chew through batteries pretty quickly.
I have tried resetting and re-pairing, changed batteries, but the Laundry Room Sensor is just being difficult (I have also changed the sensor before). I also added a Zigbee repeater (Kitchen Zigbee Plug) so see if that helps (I already have 4 repeaters there - 3 Sonoff ZB Minis, 1 IKEA repeater and now a Third Reality Plug).
Any suggestions on what to do next? Also, thoughts on the Aqara Contact Sensor or any other Zigbee or Z-Wave sensors that you would recommend.
Thanks for your help.
UPDATE: I managed to re-pair the problematic Sengled Sensor and this time it seemed to route through the Third Reality Zigbee Plug and is working correctly. However, I don't think this is a permanent solution, so still looking for recommendations.
I recommend the Moes Door and Window sensors. If you can wait the delivery time they are still way cheaper on AliExpress. I use a lot of them and have had zero issues with any of them.
Every time...they are great sensors and dirt cheap at these prices. They work awesome, have temp sensors (I don't generally use) and work with a large separation between the main sensor body and the magnet part so you have a lot of flexibility on placement.
For those of you recommending and liking the recommendation for these Xfinity /Visonic contact sensors, has anyone solved the battery issue?
My version is the XHSA-UE; the Installation Guide that came with them states the battery life is 5 years, and instructs to use only Panasonic or Sony brand batteries.
Mine report 100% then suddenly drop off the network; they last only 5 months, installed indoors about 5' from the hub.
Apparently others have the exact same issue, discussed here:
Is this just always going to be like this because they use CR2450's or have others found a way to get these to indicate battery status?
I have other devices that use 2450s that don't report only 100, so this seems to be an issue unique to these particular devices or how the driver parses their reports (or both maybe).
But I get ~1 year out of a battery with these sensors (I typically use Energizer, but I'm not very particular about brand), so I'm fine with it... I don't use these for anything super critical, so if they're stone-dead for a day or so before Device Activity Check (DAC) lets me know, then that's no big deal for me.
Since I use lithium batts exclusively and they all have such a steep-yet-still-unpredictable end-of-life, I just let ALL of my battery devices "fly to failure"... I've had some continue to work for months at single digits (or even when reporting 0).
Well, one exception -- my one house lock... I replace those batteries annually regardless of their state. I can't risk those going dead unexpectedly.
I just looked and all of mine are currently reporting 100% using Generic Zigbee Contact Sensor (no temp) driver, including one that DAC has been nagging me for a few days now. As @hydro311 said, I rely on Device Activity Check for when to replace batteries as reporting is a joke (not just for these, anything battery powered). I was using cheapo chinese 2450s from Amazon but I've switched to Toshiba (I think?) and they seem to be holding up better (as expected).
I have appx 16 Sengled E1D-G73 on all the windows in my house, 1st contact sensors I ever purchased. Like them because they are the smallest I have seen, They worked fine on my C7 but when I upgraded to a C8 I had nothing but problems. Eventually got the C7 back out and put them back on it and have not had any problems since. That has been at least 2 years. There are lots of other zigbee devices on the C7 and also lots on the C8 as well as lots of zwave on the C8. Using hub mesh and nothing ever drops of anymore. I also have some third reality and Xfinity XHSA-UE.
