No, no luck in keeping the bulbs connected. The older model bulbs that I have are no longer made, so only the new models are available. Mike is too busy to accept a loaner bulb to work with in the lab.
Tuya isn't interested in full support of Zigbee, https://support.tuya.com/en/help/_detail/K9hut33x1a8ta. They and the device manufacturers are clearly happy to lock consumers into their platform. The vendor I bought the newer bulbs from is happy to send me one of their proprietary hubs for free- but then I'd have to use the Tuya app to control the Tuya bulbs.
When I get around to it, I'll add Zigbee2MQTT that supports the newer bulbs and method of dealing with Tuya and other devices.
I am considering if I want to try to run Zigbee2MQTT on my NAS (network attached storage) or buy a Raspberry Pi to run it on.
I'll then have to add the Zigbee2MQTT Routing Driver.
