My faithful MIMO2+ has finally failed and I have replaced it with a Zen17. I’m using it for our two garage doors - we have wired contact sensors at the doors connected to S1 and S2 terminals. Each relay output is paralleled to the corresponding garage opener button terminals - and the auto off parameters set to 1 second. I have the input parameters set to contact sensor. Finally, I am using the LGK garage door app/driver which has worked reliably for months. Essentially, I did a one-for-one swap from the MIMO to the Zen. The Zen17 is about 2 feet from the hub, so I’m sure its not a mesh issue.
The problem I’m having is that after a period of non-use, the relay fails to activate the first time. This is happening on both relays. After the first time, it works reliably again. The relay child device logs shows the On command called, but that first time, it does not show the relay turn on. The second on command works fine and the logs show the relay turn on.
Any ideas?
Log/event screenshots - the failed on command is “highlighted”:
To fix it, I would add it to the "Device Activity Check" app for a daily check and have it refresh it. Or you could do a simple RM rule to refresh it periodically.
I’ve tried it with both the built in driver and your advanced driver - with the same results.
I debated doing a periodic refresh, but that’s not a great solution. And the above example shows non-use for an hour, so I’d have to run a refresh pretty frequently.
Another bit of information - in that hour of non-use, the garage door was operated manually several times, and the zen17 picked up status properly each time. That makes me wonder if a periodic refresh will even help - since it is communicating throughout the period of non-use.
Ha! I was just about to say that. I did adjust the auto off parameter to 3 seconds about 30 minutes ago. I noticed in the logs that at 1 second, it was actually opening the relay around 0.5 seconds after closing it. I also noticed that in some cases it took longer just to activate the relay. We’ll see if that helps. Fingers crossed.
Edit: BTW, you’re a smart dude! What were you doing servicing fireplaces for 10 years?
I use a 2" auto-off for my Z17 relay, and that's been working great for ~1 year now (it was around this time last year I swapped my Z16 out there for a 800 Z17).
I have a seperate RM rule that shuts the relay off if still on after 4" -- that's never run AFAIK, but it helps me sleep better at night.
I also monitor thzt Z17 with Device Activity Check -- that's a good call.
I’ve had a similar webcore piston for years… 5 seconds in my case with a notification if it runs. That’s how I knew when the MIMO was starting to fail. It started “latching” in the on position about once every 2 months about 6 months ago. It finally just gave out .
Interestingly enough, I had the MIMO set to 0.5 second contact closure and it worked great. I figured 1 second would be fine on the zen since it’s handled locally. But it seems to be working better now…. I will test again after the girls wake up… sleepover at our house.
