Oh yea, that's common ground!!
I started just wanting a light in an under-stairs closet. Then I added some door sensors to warn me when my little kids escaped out to the Pool. Then it was only 2-3 more door sensors and I had "Perimeter Security" 
120 devices later... and I'm still looking for the next cool device....
Those RGB bulbs are used by us for "alerts" -- purple means the Garage door is open, for example.
