Z-Wave. The headache that keeps on giving

Just in misery - automations not firing off. Z-wave Devices not pinging.... Z-Wave Repair that cannot repair. I'm ready to rip Z-Wave switches out completely and go Wi-Fi. 2.2.6.140. Is there any Wi-Fi products that work directly to Hubitat that don't need cloud dependency?

Shelly

I looked in your past comments to try and see what z-wave devices you have, but couldn't discover that. What are you using? Some specific combinations of devices are problematic.

Not necessarily "wi-fi" but clear connect Lutron Casetta

Wemo devices are wifi and locally addressable.

Kasa WiFi devices work locally with the Hubitat Community Kasa Integration app.

I’ve had z-wave devices stop working, I’ve had Zigbee devices stop working. I’ve NEVER had Lutron Caseta devices stop working/drop their connection.

I find that my Hubitat C7 hubs do a great job with z-wave, but it sounds like something is causing problems for you, so I agree with others - go with Lutron Caseta. I used it with SmartThings in a building we formerly owned and it was great. Just be sure to get the Pro hub as they make two, and for just a tiny bit more the hub gives you far more capability.

Yea. Only the Pro hub works with Hubitat.

I switch all my dimmers and lights and shades to shelly wifi. Superfast and instant response and local.
I still have some Zwave smart implants and sensors running . Also some aqara sensors (Zigbee)
And then also for the record im using Multireactor (beta) (live logics on a RPI4 for logics.

My setup run supersmooth and can recommend it.

Thanks, on Shelly I like the product and my only concern is the switch itself. The Jasco\GEs Z-Wave I have have a momentary rocker design, with Shelly I would need to place my own SPST switch in so off does not mean off and on does not mean on? How does it work for you, did you find a momentary switch to work with Shelly?

So I get Casetta is a working product, but I would need a bridge in between? The end switches are not directly compatible to Hubitat? via WiFi?

Any type of switch works with shelly.

I have a large mix of Jasco\GE Z-Wave, Aoetec Motion Sensor 6's, Yale Z-Wave Door Locks and Fortrezz MIMOlite's. I found after a little investigation that I have two issues. One being my Z-wave network is failing the repair with a lot of nodes and I also had a device driver with the pauseExecution(10000) command that seemed pause z-wave. I removed it in favor of runIn and it got a little better. Headache is still there, once z-wave has corruption infects it isn't easy to resolve and fix. Shelly looks to me as a better path to replace the Jascos, as I use web urls for my pool and sprinkler controls already and it pure IP. WiFi uses way more power than z-wave but at this point I don't care. Connectivity and response time is #1.

Correct. The Hubitat Lutron integration uses Telnet to the Lutron hub, and the Lutron hub uses its own proprietary protocol to talk to the Caséta switches and dimmers. Only the Lutron Pro hub speaks Telnet.

It’s the only integration that has always worked perfectly, without fail. 100% reliable.

Yes, you need the Caseta PRO Bridge. With the Caseta Pro Bridge, in addition to the Caseta dimmers and switches, you can also integrate the Pico remotes with Hubitat, which allows you to control anything connected to Hubitat with the remotes. The Pico remotes can be mounted on the wall without cutting out the drywall, they match the appearance of the the Caseta dimmers, or they can be used free standing and there is nice, sturdy pedestal for table top use. Also, the battery life of the Pico is amazing; maybe as long as 10 years. In my experience, the Lutron Caseta product line is the most reliable component in home automation.
