Z Wave Switch & LIFX Bulb

Hi, I am new to Hubitat and was wondering if the ZWave Plus Smart Switch by Ecolink (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DCK8H8R/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A1CUBB1ALZOBJS&psc=1) would be able to control two LIFX bulbs once they are discovered by Hubitat?

Yes.

The Hub has drivers that transform device specific commands and attributes into a common set. Thus a switch from ANY manufacturer using any protocol, (Zigbee, Zwave, Wifi, etc.,) will ultimately end up with "On" and "Off" used within rules and automations.

You probably don't want to use a real light switch with smart bulbs. And one use of the Ecolink is over an existing light switch. Will the two devices join Hubitat hub and function, yes. But that is an unusual combination. As a standalone button the Ecolink could work.

I would consider the Zooz Zen34 if you have not yet purchased anything. It is a modern 700 series chipset, and much nicer looking than the Ecolink. You would mount this next to your existing switch or anywhere else you wanted to mount it.

The other choice would be to use a smart switch that has smart bulb mode. You replace the old switch, and through software disable the internal dimmer to use it as a line-powered button which (via the hub) send signals to a bulb.

All my z-wave switches are setup this way since I converted all my bulbs to LIFX .. It’s quite handy.. I use the central scene button presses configured to control the LIFX bulbs, but even this is rarely used as my home is mostly motion lighting..

@bcopeland Related question. I have two Lifx color bulbs over my kitchen island controlled by an Inovelli Red SN switch using the button controller app. Dimming is painfully slow. It is being implemented with start raising/lowering and stop changing. Transition time is set to ASAP in the Lifx driver. I believe my z-wave mesh is very solid. Do you know of a setting to accelerate the rate of level change.

Yea.. I’ve recently noticed this, as I have done a similar setup… I’ll be updating these drivers in the next release.
