Z-Wave no longer responding nor eventing

I successfully moved a Z-Wave Aeotec switch from Smartthings to Hubitat and it worked. I turned it on/off and then used the Maker API to turn it on. Now it's not responding at all and I don't see even see any new events even when I use the control panel. I just the initial 3

to be safe I rebooted the hub using the control panel but still nada.

As part of debugging I'm trying to add an Aeotec Appliance switch and it is not being found even though the light is blinking. And once I do that I can figure out how to reset another one what was connected to Hubitat but I removed it in a cleanup (oops).

How does one reset a Z-Wave device? All the documentation assumes that you must do an orderly removal and that nothing must go rong otherwise you're hosed. Is that true?

It depends on each device. Some have a factory reset procedure. Others rely on performing a Z-Wave Exclusion process. Even if the device is no longer properly paired with a hub, you can use any Z-Wave controller to perform a General Exclusion process. In Hubitat, go into Settings, Z-Wave, and turn on General Exclusion - then follow the device specific instructions on how to exclude the device. Once you exclude it (verify in the live logs) you should be able to pair it again.

I did a z-wave repair and can now do on/off property. I'm surprised repairs aren't done periodically. One quirk is that Maker API forget the authorization.

As to the exclude - will need to experiment to better understand the process.

I don't see a need to do Z-wave repair periodically unless you are adding/removing or relocating Z-wave devices.

Yup, you definitely shouldn't have to unless you move devices, or add new ones.

I added a device but it worked for a while. Why would that happen?

As I understand it the z-wave map is relatively static and things do move around. Since repair seems to be lightweight and figuring out you need a repair is heavyweight then, on balance ...

So I have been adding zwave switches and devices periodically but have never done a zwave repair since installing the hub. Should I?

Yes, some devices when you pair them just get 2 routes, after a repair they can get more, depending the total repeaters, I have devices with 26 routes

Maybe you have the device a little far from the hub, and it's the first device so it has one route.

Nothing moved in this case.

(As an aside, I hate Z-Wave, Zigbee, Bluetooth which with their own special networks and no synergy)

Lol, in some point I was concerned about RF exposure, now in a 1200sqft home I have only 40 wifi devices 24/7 if nobody is at home, when we are at home is at least 5 more, and 100 devices which 30 are zigbee and 70 are z wave. Not bad huh... We will die some day anyway, right?

It seems consist -- I need to reboot after Z-Wave discover in order to get the Z-Wave event queues unstuck. I can send events but they aren't recorded and the updated status isn't reported.
