Z-wave network failure -please help!

I will say from my experience that just pulling the tab on these doesn't shut down the signals (smarts) from the switch, it just cuts the power to the lights.

I would totally remove these from the wall before doing anything else. I would probably go so far as to trip the main circuit breaker for a minute if possible, to reboot every device in the house.

Won't help. The backup will have the same bad radio configuration.

The simplest solution would be to remove any potential ghosts. And do not add any new devices until the ghosts are removed.

I have had Jasco switches/dimmers fail. So a number of years ago, I replaced them with Zooz devices.

I second the recommendation to remove the ghost devices.

Earlier this year I had a GE switch go bad. It would still control the light locally and was still attached to the hub. However, it brought my zwave mesh to its knees. I could not get it to exclude properly and none of the other 50+ devices worked correctly until I factory reset it and removed the ghost left behind. Once that was done everything immediately returned to normal.

It's a Christmas miracle! I restored from a backup to before I had major issues, which put me back to having the 3 devices that were spamming with "physical off" signals. I replaced the 3 bad switches and after 20 tries of "refresh" and "remove" and reboots of the hub, I was able to also remove their 3 ghost nodes left behind. New switches added and the network is back up and running. Thank you all for your input!

Hi, I'm moving a decade of Smartthings sensors and devices over to Hubitat over the last week or so. I'm new to Hubitat. After successfully moving 2 Schlage door locks, a couple of Jasco light switches, and 15 door/window contact sensors which were mostly z-wave, a few ZigBee.. everything was working great with basic rules to turn on lights based on doors opening, life360+ working as presence sensors to unlock doors.. it was all good.... until last night when I started having issues with the door locks.. possibly my fault as I noticed some anomalies in the z-wave mesh and started mucking with it. Thanks to this thread and the instructions on removing ghosts, I was able to get both door locks and light switches working... but.. both locks and both switches show up with a 'Refresh-Repair' in their z-wave details, everything else just shows 'refresh'.

Is it ok to leave it and run with it, or do I need to do something?

I've got another 6 of the GE/Jasco switches that I've not moved over. One of the Schlage locks is brand new. Having to replace all of these wasn't in my thinking, and they've all been running on Smartthings without issue for many years (other than the door locks dropping off the network periodically).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Don't do a refresh.... Also I'm surprised life 360 works since they disabled their API's for most companies. Can you post your z-wave details page in it's entirety?

Probably normal. Battery [sleepy] powered devices wont have a repair option.

If things are working again then dont mess with it,

Is that a warning that if I do a refresh, something will go wonky?

Thanks, I hope it's normal. BTW, the door locks are battery powered.

a lot of s0 stuff there. Very chatty... If you can re pair those sensors without security that would be best for your mesh (locks and keypads require security so you can leave those alone).

Thanks, I don't recall the contact sensors or jasco switches asking about security.. the newer Schlange lock did. By repairing, I assume you mean I should remove the device, do a zwave exclude and then re-add the device via a z-wave inclusion.

Yes but they are a special type of battery devices which listens on an interval so they can be refreshed. Battery sensor devices are normally asleep and wont respond to commands.

No, its harmless but also mostly useless unless you are trying to remove a node.

Anything that uses S0 wont ask, per zwave spec devices that only support S0 security must be paired that way so the hub complies. Its a tricky process to get them out of the S0, that normally requires a secondary controller. IMO probably not worth it especially for a contact sensor which wont have much transmissions. There are a few older motion sensors that pair with S0 and those can be very chatty and cause some issues when using S0.

What hub do you have C8 or C7?

C8 - It was a Christmas present.. while ST was working pretty well, I missed the IDE and the developer community seemed to be waning. I've still got a bunch of lights, about 8 moisture sensors and a water valve controller to move over. Also, about 6 motion sensors, some pretty old, so I may have to do some research on disabling SO.... for another time.

To re pair without s0 you will need a z-wave stick
