Yale Assure Lock 2 Z-Wave now shipping

Yale is now shipping the Z-Wave version of the Assure Lock V2, yay! However, I'm confused by the model #. It's listed as YRD*ZW2 which I believe indicates it doesn't include the 700 series module? @bcopeland

I'm hoping this is a mistake but the Z-Wave alliance page does show two models one with *ZW2 and one with *ZW3

Edit: Just spoke to Yale tech support, they claim that while the model number specifies *ZW2 it actually includes the newest module *ZW3 adapter, seems odd.

The stand alone adapter is also available now for $99.99:

I'm looking forward to buy this product. That being said, I would hope for getting the zw3 version. If someone buys it, could you please let me know if it comes with zw2 or zw3? I saw some reviews and the pictures would show zw2.

I placed an order for 2 of the YRD450-ZW2-619 models from Amazon, not supposed to arrive until the end of May :disappointed:

I'll post when they arrive and can confirm if the module is actually the ZW3 as Yale Support implied. It does look like Yale is shipping them directly now if someone wants to be an earlier adopter and can update sooner

When I wrote earlier I was thinking about the bundle. I believe if you really bought just the module zw2, it will be a zwave 500, but I can be wrong.

I ordered the bundle, we'll see what gets delivered.

I bought 2 of them, and swapped out the modules for ZW3 modules. I wasn't very impressed, so sent the locks back, and put my kwikset homeconnect 620 zwave 700 models back in.

I might still have one or both of the ZW3 modules in the drawer though.

May ask what you didn't like about them?

For some reason I had troubles getting to work correctly in terms of pairing and reporting back status as expected. Don't know why.

Tried on hubitat (C7) and zwave-js with similar results. Ran out of time to troubleshoot them any further, so sent them back.

So it could have been a fluke. I'm NOT saying they are bad for everyone or "can't" work.

Do you folks know if one can apply firmware updates on the modules?

It should theoretically be possible; I believe Z-Wave 700 requires OTA update capabilities for certification. Even so, the more important question that no one ever knows is whether the manufacturer will actually make new firmware available.

@halfrican.ak: Can you post the direct link to the YRD450-ZW2-619 on Amazon? I tried to find it, but it looks like because they are out of stock all Amazon search will show me is either the non-Z-wave Assure Lock 2 models, or the Z-Wave version of the Assure Lock SL. Even if it is out-of-stock, it would be nice to have the direct link to Amazon (so I can check quickly in the future if they are back in stock).

@bobbyD: Your link is to the older model for the Assure Lock (model AYR202-ZWV-USA).

The Z-Wave module for the Yale Assure Lock 2 (model AYR-MOD-ZW2-USA) is the same price, and available here:

Like the bundle, the model number for the stand-alone module includes "ZW2" not "ZW3". The page doesn't say anything about Z-Wave 500 vs. 700 vs. 800, so I'm also curious to know what comes in the bundle, or what you get when you order the stand-alone AYR-MOD-ZW2-USA.

How did you get the ZW3 modules? Didn't they just become available a few days ago?

Do you know if that Is a 700 or 800 chip? I canโ€™t find it anywhere if itโ€™s one of those.

No, I have no idea. I am checking for other modules from time to time and I remember all have been out of stock for the longest time. Was glad to see the Z-Wave module is back in stock, while the others are still out or not listed yet.

You've been able to get them off eBay for a few months. They are pulls from contractor installs that got the modules before end consumers.

Do you know if you could include it using S2 with zw3? I saw in another thread that the zw2 model would use just S0 but I don't know if it really is true.

Yes, it would pair w/S2. That was the only reason I got the modules, as I dislike S0. ZW2 only does S0.

That said, S0 for a perimeter security device like a lock is usually not really an issue as they have low event rates - so the 3x message penalty of S0 is less impactive.
