Writer's block - door bells and garage door opener

Ok .. I drew a blank. I think .. you got this. No you don't. So, I threw a sage doorbell sensor on my wired bell and joined it. now what? What can I do with it? Someone throw me an idea.

Also, I've been toying with my garage door opener. It's automated, but I don't know what I want to do with it. How is yours set up? How do you write your rules? Ideas? I also have an echo auto. I'd like to ask her to open my garage door, instead of telling her to turn on my garage door. It just feels WRONG. Ideas welcome. Ad hominem (my new word of the day thanks to @bobbyD ) responses (I think) are probably not a good idea according to google. (I promise that's the last poke Bobby.)

I'm waiting for your full report on the Sage doorbell. I do want to replace my August doorbell and the Sage would be a good start.

Well, at a minimum, you might want to turn on the front porch light if someone is standing there in the dark ringing your doorbell. But you might also consider what you want to have happen if you are not at home. For example, turning on a few lights to simulate someone being home. And perhaps playing the sound of a dog barking, or someone yelling, "Hey, Marcel! Some stranger is at the door. Git your gun. Git mine too!."

OMG! I love it! I actually have the lights on from dusk until we go to bed and back on when we rise if it's before sunrise. There are table lamps that interact if we're away, so that was already set up long before the doorbell got saged. At minimum a notification would be good. I could start there. Maybe if someone rings it while in night mode, it would be prudent to turn on the outside lights as well. I like those suggestions.

Sage connected very easily and paired straight away. It's really snappy. I'm happy with it. I'm just a little slow on figuring out what I want it to do for notification and automation. I don't have any cameras that will integrate to turn on when it rings. When we're in the basement, we can't hear the bell, so the main purpose for having it is for when we're out of earshot of the bell or in the back yard. Of course I have two doorbells named Kona and Shiloh and they seem to be really sensitive to a fly farting at the next door neighbors house.

"Activate the garage door" works. I couldn't stand 'turn on' syntax either.

I wonder if I could use a virtual contact sensor to simulate open and close?

My camera on the front door did not have any native integrations, however tasker has a pushover plugin. I have pushover send a message and tasker then opens my camera app. I use a motion sensor on my porch for this, but the sage doorbell could trigger the pushover notification as well.

Picky, picky. Heh.

How about an Alexa Group named "Open the garage door" with only the garage device in it? Maybe Alexa is smart enough to sort out what you want. (I do something like this with some other devices that have hard-to-remember labels.)

Also if you have a spot in the house it is difficult to hear the doorbell you could flash a bulb.

 Alexa "Turn on the garage door" just seems wrong. I'd prefer to not have to ask her for anything. I rarely use her at home. I think she's pissed at me for it. I never get what I want.
