Wondering about Z-Wave platform reliability

If you create an account on the Zooz support site and register at least one of your devices, you will get access to all of the available firmware files.

You're retired after a lifetime of work - definitely entitled to a little laziness here and there! Although your spouse might disagree

If you search for Z-Wave issues on this forum, the vast majority relate to Zooz and Inovelli.

Personally I stick to Fibaro (Smart Implant), Yale (locks), Dome (only 2 sirens from them) and everything else is from Aeotec - as a result I just dont have issues 99.99% of the time.

I don't believe that to be true. I started with GE switches when I dipped my toe into smart switches and flipped to Zooz about halfway through. A few of the GE switches have died and been replaced with Zooz. I've never had z-wave stability problems. Some of their earlier devices had issues, but to be fair, most do. Most often, Z-wave issues almost always stem from an unstable mesh (as is the case here).

Same. The only Zooz device that has died on me was a Zooz Zen07, which they no longer make. None of my Zooz switches/dimmers have died - and I still have a couple original Zen21s.

Same for me as well - even the older V2s which can't be firmware upgraded (but are U/L listed) are still working.. much to my disappointment.

The newer models of GE switches work great too and can handle fans and other electrical devices in addition to lighting.

I've been messing around with the GE Zigbee switch and it too works great though the options seem limited at the moment.

I’m just starting my observations from the forum, search for those brands on the forum and you’ll see loads of ppl with issues asking for help.

That's fair, but I'd defer to the saying correlation does not imply causation. I'd wager Zooz is one of the more popular brands out there for the US, so I'd expect that a large number of instances where there are issues, there's a Zooz device in the mix.

I think the issue with Zooz in my experience is it can be finicky in terms of installation - you really need to use the provided short screws and pay attention to the load requirements like making sure your switch can be used with fans for example.

Aeotec and Fibaro are international brands, with even bigger user bases, and I rarely see ppl with zwave issues for those devices (not including generic can’t remove ghost issues which aren’t brand specific).

I've had issues with both Aeotec and Fibaro but maybe regional differences play a factor dunno. Really had trouble with double switches/relays from both companies and the Fibaro keyfob has just been plain terrible with HE in my experience.

edit: I do in general like Aeotecs stuff and don't mean to come off sounding too negative.

I'm definitely not saying they are perfect, just less troublesome in general. The only issues I've personally (on Hubitat) had are a Multi-Sensor dying and I do need to power cycle my Smart Implant every few months.
