I have some WIFI power strips that i purchased in the past, that i normally managed through Alexa. I would like to enable motion sensing on turning these on/off from Hubitat if possible. Are these candidates to flash, or would it be better to use Virtual Devices? I am trying to avoid IFTTT if possible with their recent changes to a subscription model.
Not sure if anyone has any experience with the first one, but I tried the second (Teckin) and was not able to get it flashed with Tasmota:
That would be your best hope for getting them locally integrated into Hubitat directly via Wi-Fi while avoiding IFTTT or their vendor's cloud/app. Your best bet on Hubitat is generally going to be a Zigbee or Z-Wave device, but I understand that there aren't a lot of these for power strips right now (Zooz is the only current seller I'm aware of) and they tend to be far more expensive. Flashing to Tasmota seems to be the most promising option for the rest, but whether your particular device will work with that method is always the question.
If Alexa is controlling the power strips now it seems that virtual switches created in HE controlled by the motion sensors should work. Just expose the switches to the Alexa app and use Alexa routines to control the power strips. It may take some work but I think itβs possible.
