This community is honestly one of my favorites. For the most part, there isn't much drama (which is not something I can say about my interior design group lol) and everyone is so helpful and I am learning so much everyday. One of my favorite things about home automation is I can nag my husband to do things without having to actually nag him I have just now created repeating notifcations for when the dog bowl is out of water, the water softener is out of salt, the vacuum/mop robot's water tank is below a certain level, etc... He's probably going to end up turning off the HE notifications LOL! His biggest mistake is letting me add his phone on the hub with the guise of "It'll be so cool! We can set our home on Away everytime we leave the house and lock up all our doors in case we forget!"
Don't worry... I've also made automations he cares about. Thank you again for all the help!
That same scene took place in my house last night between my wife & me. AND SHE FELL FOR IT!!!!
Don't forget about adjusting your thermostats when you are away and all of the money that will save.
Good call!! Adding to my list now. I wish there was like a top 100 list of things to do with your smart home haha. I know I’m forgetting things even tho I have a running list in Word lol
You've been a smart consumer...your questions show you've done your own research/reading in advance, and you are obviously clever enough to sneak stuff past your husband. (I'm still trying to get my wife to allow me to put the Owntracks app on her phone...sigh.)
I love Home Automation because I am too lazy.
“I work hard now to be lazy later.” ~every developer
Orrrrr… “I’m sick of writing this same thing 50 times.”
This is called SAF (Spousal acceptance Factor) It's a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being awesome, 1 meaning divorce...
sounds like it's time to look into pushover and give him no choice
I think the key thing is to begin with some fun notifications. Like "It's time for dessert!"
"Happy Hour" lighting is a good place to start.
Haha I went with “Happy Hour” and “Movie Time” But, he’s also not hard to please. Any of the “home management” things like security and water leak protections make him happy lol. It helps reduce his anxiety.
