My nest Homebridge plugin is flaky and there’s no way to add it to h.e. Thinking about switching to ecobee, thoughts?
Why don't you get a z-wave or zigbee thermostat that is directly controlled by Hubitat? I switched about six months ago from an ecobee3 to a Honeywell T6 pro z-wave+ thermostat that I got on eBay for about $80. I couldn't be happier - no more cloud dependence on controlling my thermostat.
There's both a Hubitat built-in driver for this as well as an advanced driver written by @bcopeland.
And there plenty of other z-wave and zigbee thermostats that are supported by Hubitat.
The reason I’m disabled and live with my parents (airforce accident) and they don’t want anything “permanent” that’s not a big company. They don’t trust h.e
But if you say you want to get a "Honeywell T6 pro" that's got to be a "legit" company in your parents eyes right? Nice that it also happens to integrate with the Hubitat but who cares about that right?
@aaiyar will have to respond to that .. I am still on the Nest myself - I do have a centralite pearl for our master bathroom.
No - that's a wifi unit. It is this one: https://www.honeywellhome.com/T6-Pro-Z-wave
The model number is "TH6320ZW2003".
Since you've mentioned you use eBay, here's an eBay link:
I would agree with @erktrek. Honeywell is definitely bigger and more stable than ecobee.
I switched from Nest to Ecobee late last year after one of my two Nest thermostats died. My power company offered a really good discount around Black Friday on the Ecobee 3 Lite thermostats. I bought two of them for significantly less than one new Nest.
So far, they have both been reliable and I have not noticed any cloud outages. However, I really do not try to control these thermostats via Hubitat. So if there were cloud outages, I might not even notice.
They do a better job at temperature control versus the Nests. The house is much more comfortable. I feel the Nests tried a little too hard to save a few extra pennies. We have not noticed any real difference in our power bills.
They also offer native Apple HomeKit integration, if that’s applicable to you.
I'm new to Hubitat, less than a week. but I've had an ecobee for four years. I have not yet integrated it into the Hubitat world.
What made me decide on ecobee is this: Nest and Honeywell claim to be able to learn your schedule and adjust accordingly. I recently retired so I have no schedule.
Instead, my ecobee has remote motion sensor/thermometer in four rooms. If we leave for the day it adjusts the heat/AC and readjusts as soon as it senses our motion.
If we lose internet it keeps working just fine.
So I will heartily recommend it to you.
ecobee just forced out a "climate change" initiative onto their thermostat owners named "eco+"...I will be leaving them now because am not interested in narratives being forced on loyal customers. I literally was checking my home's temperature remotely when the ecobee3 app opened into this eco+ BS intro which wouldn't let me access my ecobee3 thermostat without installing the new eco+ software. I do believe there is an opt-out option after you install the eco+ software but no thanks. Call me crazy but I just want a secure, programmable and remotely controlled thermostat, that also has room sensors, without being lectured to about energy consumption via political narratives.
I started with EcoBee 3. It came with my new HVAC system. Except for the server outages early on, I have no complaints. I have received great support when needed and experienced flawless automation with HE.
You can get all this without using a cloud connected thermostat. Use a zigbee or z-wave thermostat directly paired to Hubitat and use Rule Machine (or any other automation platform) to use sensor averages to control the thermostat. I posted a lengthy response, with data, to your other post on the Honeywell T9 WiFi thermostat..
Yep just read it, very helpful, thanks Aaiyar
Agree with Aaiyar 100%. I have a Gocontrol plain jane Z Wave thermostat and have had zero issues. All done without the cloud. In fact , I just received an Ecobee 3 lite thermostat free from my gas company but have decided not to install it and continue to use my Gocontrol. It works flawlessly with @bcopeland Gocontrol driver.
If my ecobee goes I will be just getting a Zwave our Zigbee thermostat. Ecobee and Nest are not worth the headaches and $$$ these days. @storageanarchy’s ecobee app is the only reason I still have an ecobee.
Eco+ can be turned off.
Do you have a link to your article? I'd like to read it. Thanks!
Not sure its an article, but my response to @adam7 is in this thread:
I will maintain that if you have simple 1H/1C systems, then it makes sense to get a Hubitat-controlled z-wave/zigbee thermostat. Multi-stage systems are definitely better with an ecobee. And variable speed systems (with the exception of Bosch and Daikin) will need proprietary communicating thermostats.
