Which Smart Lock do you prefer and why?

I’d just like to point out that you don’t have to walk Zigbee devices to the hub for approval in order to pair them. I paired all 5 of mine from the doors I installed them in.

So the thing is, they were supported. But there were (take your pick) [some, few, many,] who were having problems that could not be fixed by Hubitat. So Hubitat took the step to remove it from the supported list. My read of it was they didn't want to look like they were recommending a lock that couldn't 100% be made to work.

For (again, take your pick) [most, many] of us, the Schlage have always been fine, or were fine after some fine tuning of our mesh using repeaters and so on.

The issue seems to be some combination of Schlage firmware, likely along with various issues at people's homes. You may have perfect success, or they won't work or may have issues. Either way, it is worth trying them first, and maybe if they don't work look at something else.

Farovite brand name ever. EVER.

No, you don't. But just make one teeny little joke about how "Zigbee" sounds like a bee that can't fly straight, and they just go to pieces.

Update: I was able to pair both of my lockd with 0 issues. Unpaired from SmartThings, thrn paired thrm with Hubitat with no sweat. Installed the lock manager and everything has been working.

The speed of all my devices is amazingly fast. We bought the new C7 model. I've found a few bugs but overall, very straight forward experience. Even got my Switchbots working too.

I was like huh?? I have a 916 and my family loved it. Then I googled it and didn’t know they make those with touch screen now.

We have three 916 with physical buttons and it never had failed us. Look like we will be staying away from touch screen in future if we had to replace it

My wife and I really don’t use button anymore since we use iPhone unlock it but our kids still use buttons

Sorry you’re having issue with it Kwikset is supposed to be top brand lock maker

Sounds like you have the 914, which I think we all agree works well.

My numbers rubbed off.

I've seen that complaint, but not experienced it myself. I will admit that I almost never have to touch the lock, since I usually unlock with my iPhone (not automatically as that is madness) because the beeps make my dog freak out.
Edit: I almost forgot that I don't care if the numbers rub off because I got them on clearance at Lowe's. The last one I picked up for $38 (less than 1 Hue rgbw)

I still have the box so I went and look ... Yup, you are correct ..

My bad!

It's the 914 not 916! Thank you for pointing it out ... :stuck_out_tongue:

So funny how personal this is...I don't care for the physical buttons at all, either how they look, or how they feel when used. Reminds me of the word processing wars of the late 80's...

Pistols at dawn, sir, and I'll see you in HELL!

Yeah well, at least they DO work. More than I can say for the touch buttons on the Kwikset 916. :stuck_out_tongue:

I blame that on Kwikset cost-reducing, or just generally F-ing up their implementation. :frowning: Now Schlage touch...

@TechMedX: Wow thank you ! I also have 3 Schlage Connect and they are not reliable at all. I did not know that piece of software (Reliable locks) and I tried it. Wow all my locks are now working all the time.

Hi @Cygnus912, did you have any luck connecting it to your Hubitat? I just got the same lock and would love to connect it if at all possible.

U-Bolt

If I am reading things correctly, this is a Wifi lock. If this is correct, then the only way I am aware of is via Alexa, Google, or IFTTT. None of those will probably be completely satisfactory in practice, and it won't allow things like setting codes, seeing who unlocked the lock, getting feedback about lock position, or any other advanced function. It would be a virtual device within Hubitat and you would have to create an action/routine within Alexa/Google/IFTTT.

And if you don't have one already, then the price of that U-lock is comparable to a Zigbee or Zwave lock. Neither of those rely on the cloud like the U-lock, and will work within any hub that has Zigbee or Zwave so you aren't locked to a particular vendor which may or may not be in business at any point in time.

I love my Alfred lock. It works perfectly every time it's consistent it looks better than other locks and even better it doesn't have a key.
