Which motion sensor should i use to control Matter over wifi Smart bulbs

Hi, noob to the Hubitat community and smart home automation. I have a set of Linkind Matter over wifi color bulbs that I was able to provision using Apple Homekit and add to Hubitat. I was wondering what type of motion sensor I can use to turn them on and off in my main bathroom. Do I need to use a matter-compatible motion sensor or can I use a Zigbee motion sensor once it is added to Hubitat or am I thinking of this incorrectly?
Thank you in advance for any help.

You're thinking of it incorrectly.

Assuming you want to create the automation on Hubitat (and I probably would...), you can use any motion sensor that is compatible with Hubitat. For the most part, this is the bulk of Z-Wave, standard Zigbee (HA 1.2 or 3.0), and emerging Matter motion sensors. In general, any device of the type the app looks for (motion sensor, contact sensor, bulb, switch, thermostat, etc.) can be used in that app with any other device, regardless of manufacturer, protocol, or other variables, as long as you have a driver that makes it work on the hub.

The compatible device list is a great place to start (listing devices known to work with built-in drivers) if you aren't sure what to use:

A search of the forum may also pull up users' favorite devices, including this topic from late last year:

Thank you for the quick response. I think I'm tracking. Since Hubitat can see and control the smart bulbs, as long as the motion sensor can be added to Hubitat, I can use it to create an automation to control the bulbs.

yes, and it's not just motion sensors. You can control it exactly the same with anything that senses (reports to the hub) a change. Door contact sensor, presence, liquid level, and so on.

When "this" does that, turn on the light... where "this" is a great number of devices. You can even "stack them" where you might have motion + time-of-day, for example.

Thank you very much. I had heard how helpful the Hubitat community is and I am happy to see that it is all true.
