Since I got a 3d printer as a birthday present one of the things I am very interested is the modular organization systems that are out there. There are a few standards out there and many have open sourced their designs/code. Looking for anyone that is using or thinking about using one of these systems and their experience recommendations with it.
My use case is is mounting it on the walls of my network closet cleaning up things that would be sitting on shelves or what I directly screwed to the boards on the wall. Also looking for mounting inside of cabinets to give hooks and bins to made cabinets storage much easier. And finally there is Underware where cable management pieces can be attached to the system and clean up wire routing.
I see a lot of Org systems in my newsfeeds and gridfinity is what I see the most. I’m a file-pile kind of guy but there is a honeycomb system posted in another thread
In the last year it seems to be a battle between Multiboard (Multibuild) and OpenGrid, so far the winner with simplicity and how much filament is used to create the boards has been OpenGrid.
I just watched this video today and it was interesting:
Also Hands on Katie had this to say with OpenGrid and Underware 2.0 for cable managment.
Semi related, the Ikea Skadis stuff is awesome. Both printing your own or mix-ing and matching boards, metal components, etc. with printed ones.. I’m super super happy with it.
Yes I was thinking about the Ikea solution last year when I saw a few home lab folks using it. But with the ability to print various grid sizes and easy mounts and 100’s of community models (yep you need filament), I can plan, test, and build slowly.
