Where's my damn (cheap, local) robotic puppy?

Very cool,.

That gives new meaning to the phrase puppy training ...

Fifteen hundred bucks? I’d better just get one.

Our rescue mutt had a much lower up-front cost, but maintenance and accessories has brought the total cost of ownership way over $1540. I need to check WAF before pursuing this logic any further.

Remember when robot dogs were amusing companions, like the Sony Aibo? Who decided that they should be Terminator meets Cujo?

We've actively incorporated this one into Hubitat... (If the 4 year olds door opens after 9pm without deactivating the rule, it will send a pushover notification to our phone with a specific tone as well as a message that says , "Kid's name is escaping! Release the hounds!" This one will hear the specific sound on our phones and chase the kid down to corner him (which brings our other dog in tow) so that we can catch the kid and put him back to bed. He runs on zigbee

Mine apparently has a very has a very short battery life. I guess you get what you pay for.

:joy:

10-12 years ago, my elderly/disabled mom wanted a dog for company but knew she couldn't care for it. I would have bought her a (discontinued, then re-issued with a subscription) Sony Aibo in a heartbeat, but she wanted it to be life-like (furry) rather than techno. I've scoured the internet for months, then years, thinking that this 'comfort tech' was surely just around the corner.

What's the hold-up? Just stick some fake fur and eyeballs on a self-docking Roomba module and let it come out (autonomously) and bark and wag its tail. That's all I needed. It's more than a decade later, so maybe throw in a little AI to make it come when called.

I thought it was a sleepy end device. :grinning:
