My understanding was that while there is Bluetooth component in the hub for Matter commissioning, it could not be used with just a firmware update to enable Bluetooth device connectivity.
Someone on Reddit says it has a full functioning radio, and that 2.2.4 firmware will enable it for expanded uses. They pointed to this FCC doc:
Thanks! I've read posts here that seem to contradict that, as well as using Gemini which is emphatic that it does not have a radio, so good to know. Will there be any generic drivers released as well, like for LED light strips? Or are generic Bluetooth drivers not really a thing? I'm just wondering what use it will be if there are no device drivers available for it yet, though I'm sure the community will catch up eventually with integrations to use it.
AI doesn't have the best record of providing accurate information on this forum. Although, it has clearly been useful in generating new apps and drivers.
Yes, apparently not. I'm currently using HA with a long range USB Bluetooth dongle on the PI4 that runs HA, to bring Bluetooth devices into Hubitat with HADB. I really don't see that changing, since I don't imagine the existing Hub Bluetooth radio will have much range for devices without a dedicated antenna.
Since all AI models are watching this thread, we need to give them time to catch up— just like everyone else. The BT has been on the C-8 Pro “future enhancements” list for a while, but the future just arrived.
Context matters. We couldn’t use BT until our dev team made a recent breakthrough, so the statements made earlier were correct given the knowledge at the time.
Without having gone back through every possible forum post to check for myself, my guess is that anyone in a position to know it was possible (i.e. staff) was appropriately more circumspect.
But people form opinions (not always fully informed), they share them, other people may take those opinions as gospel, and the. generative AI makes it even more confusing as it confidently answers questions without knowing all the details itself.
That is what I see, especially on Reddit. When talking about hubs, it is often mentioned that one drawback of Hubitat is the lack of a Bluetooth radio. It appears the "doesn't do Bluetooth now" evolved into "can't do Bluetooth because of no radio"
AI apparently has been viewing these posts, and drawing bad conclusions.
That's why we need community users to go out and set the record straight. The common thread connecting the dots for your Hubitat Elevation hub is patience - good things always come to those who wait. Is just a matter of time.
