I'm trying to add TP Link KS205 Matter device to Hubitat....Just can't get it to go.
It's added to the Kasa app, I copied the pairing code, went to Hubitat -> Add Device -> Matter -> entered the pairing code, and it says it can't find it.
Do you still need to use GH, ST, etc to provision it first? I saw one posting indicating that was no longer necessary.
But I tried to add it to ST as well, and nothing...ST didn't find it either. Neither did GH.
Is there something special I need to do to get these into Matter pairing mode?
I assume I can have it configured in both the Kasa App (so I can do firmware updates) and Matter at the same time?
I've provisioned several Wiz Matter bulbs by adding them via the Wiz app and just entering the pairing code into Hubitat and they just worked.
Bluetooth needs to be enabled on your phone and you must be on same wifi network as hubitat is (same dhcp pool of addresses, hubitat can be hardwired).
Must use Hubitat app on your phone
Hubitat app must be seeing Hubitat local (not cloud)
Go into app devices tab, press + button on top right of screen, then select add matter devices, ...
This doesn't work for Kasa and Tapo devices if you add to the app first as it is different than Wiz. Adding to the app first means that the Matter setup no longer works. Users are expected to use skills/integrations to add to other smart home assistants. What you need to do is:
1.) Factory reset the switch
2.) Pair the switch via Matter to a smart home controller. This can be directly into Hubitat if you have the correct firmware and mobile app versions; otherwise, you will need to use a third party Matter controller.
3.) Once the switch is connected via Matter, open up the Kasa and it should show a new device ready to be added. This is the switch and will allow you to control it via Matter with Hubitat or the Kasa app.
This is the process I have used several times for both Kasa and Tapo Matter devices. Going Kasa/Tapo app first hurts the Matter onboarding process.
Thanks for all the responses, but I still can't get it to work with Kasa devices...I did the following:
I have the lastest Hubitat C8 firmware and mobile (Android) app.
Phone is on the same network as the C8
Added switch to Kasa app, got Matter code, then removed switch
When to the app, add device, Matter, entered code
Nothing. just didn't work...Could never find the device
So I tried adding it to Smartthings...Came right up, then shared the device, got another Matter code, added that to Hubitat, and the devices came right up.
So there still seems to be some issues with the direct Hubitat process.
Does the switch have a QR Matter code attached to it? Did the switch come with a QR Matter code sticker? Have you tried going directly from one of these two into Hubitat without first pairing into the Kasa app?
Make sure IPv6 is enabled on your router. I went through your problems last week and found some data saying Matter required that. I reset the device, enabled IPv6 and it paired immediately using the 11 digit code on the bulb.
I was using the Add Device process from the Hubitat web page (from my phone) and not the add device section from the Hubitat app.
If I provision the device from the Hubitat app, it works fine.
However, the add device section from the web page is nicer, as when it's done adding, I have the ability to either name the device or replace an existing device. The App add device process doesn't do this.
Matter provisioning requires access to Bluetooth. The mobile app has access to Bluetooth. Webpages on your hub, accessed via your mobile, do not have access to Bluetooth.
Hi 7093. I have been struggling to install my KS205 Matter switches. I had them controlled by Hubitat for a while then the connection was lost. I was hopeful adding the switch to Hubitat directly would work but still no joy.... Any other ideas?
Thanks
