Whatever happened to the Lutron Connected Bulb Remote Control?

And has anybody stepped in with something similar to take its place?

I have five Hue Dimmer Switches to control Hue bulbs in both bathrooms, nightstand lamp, desk lamp, and hallway. I love the fact that I can program that when the Hue bulb comes on digitally, the color temperature can be set based on the time of day. And I can override that color temperature with the Hue Dimmer Switch. But the aesthetics are not so great having those Hue Dimmer Switch plates stuck up on the wall next to the regular switch plate.

The Lutron zigbee remote could be programmed via Hubitat (I think) to act like the Hue Dimmer Switch to support different actions for a button press depending on a state variable. Then I could just get a wider switch plate and put the Lutron zigbee remote in there. Maybe someday!

If I understand your question correctly, in the hubitat environment I believe most people just use the regular Lutron Picos. Unlike smartthings, these are visible to the hub, so you can use the individual buttons for whatever you like. And they fit very nicely in a wall plate.

You do need a Lutron SmartBridge pro to issue the direct commands, but again, unlike smartthings, everything will run locally. It's not a cloud integration.

You can even get custom engraving if you want that.

A number of community members are using these throughout their homes with hubitat. I believe @mike.maxwell May hold the record.

The price of the hub is the limiting factor with the Picos. I have 3 of the Hue dimmers on the wall, so am thinking replacing those with 3 remotes/dimmers that fit in a decora switch plate, would be cheaper than buying the hub and 3 Picos. Though possibly I'm not looking at the big picture/future .

I hopped on over to SmartThings to see if I could find out any info there, and apparently GE and Inovelli are working on remotes that will do what I want, but z-wave not zigbee. They don't really look like dimmer switches though, and none of them are available for sale yet from what I can tell.

Probably the best answer for now is to sit tight and see what happens...

Unfortunately they decided to discontinue the Lutron Connected Bulb remote. I have 6 of them. They have their place. Picos are much more flexible though because of the greater programing possibilities than just the four options Wink offered with Connected Bulb Remotes, and there are some cool smooth dimming options coming to Hubitat. Plus, once you have the Caseta Pro bridge (if you didnโ€™t already have Caseta), then you can also add any other Caseta product too.

You can get a lower cost by purchasing a kit, and you can also do what I did and try to get a deal by bidding on one. I managed to get a Pro bridge for $50 CAD on eBay, no shipping cost (seller was local). More of a long shot, but if youโ€™re not in a rush, you have a better chance of finding one.

I was just reading this post and wanted to confirm some things. I also have Connected Bulb Remotes which I have been very happy with.

If I understand this correctly then I cannot use them directly with Hubitat?

Also, if I switch to the Pico Remotes then I have to install a Lutron hub such as the one below and that will work natively with Hubitat?

Thanks.

Yes, and yes.
Depending on how many connected bulb remotes you have, you should be able to defer some or all of your bridge costs by selling the remotes on ebay.
These are very desirable for factory resetting ZLL bulbs and devices.
