What Do You Want to See in Your Hubitat Hub?

In no particular order:

  • Better dash/UI (something like Homey)
  • better (read more reliable) hardware and hub resources
  • More device drivers for EU devices

Willing to pay more, if above would be met.

2-3 years ago, my answer would have included the dashboard. If I am honest, I almost never use my dashboard for Hubitat-related purposes anymore. It was my security blanket when I was transitioning from SmartThings and troubleshooting new rules.

The UI would have been high on my list also, as there is a bit of a non-intuitive learning curve. That is no longer such a big factor for me.

I am intrigued by the concept of improved diagnostics. One concept could be to proactively scour various sources: device events, logs, LQI, RSSI, route. It could alert to marginal practices (4 hops and weak signal) with potential countermeasures. It could capture strange events and related details (commanded ON but did not report state change - command communication details were XYZ). This type of snapshot would certainly help me with very intermittent issues.

The ability to see the history of only one attribiute in a device. Smartthings did this. Just click on MOTION or ILLUMINANCE, etc, and only see the history for that instead of everying that you have to sift though. Some devices have 15/20 attributes, so sifting though them all when I only want to see a history of LOCKED as an example.

Here's an example:
(Imagine trying to find all the MOTIONS though all that saved data).

In the same way that devices can be grouped in Rooms I would like a Category grouping like heating, lights or security that would display only those related devices.

HomeKit does this so that would fit in nicely.

It would be so useful being able to see all the related devices on one screen e.g. any windows open or doors unlocked.

C9 needs built-in battery backup. like a 9V that alarm clocks/smoke detectors have.

Batteries is a worst electronic components to deal with.
Please use an external UPS like anybody else does.

I'll just throw in my opinion that there should be a generic tagging system instead of rigid "room" and "category" style labels.

Then it would be 1 size fits all - could use room tags, type tags, model tags, etc. Filter for whichever tag(s) you want to show devices.

a generic hierarchical tagging system

A generic tagging system should never be hierarchical (my opinion). You do hierarchy by adding all the tags in the same tree branches you would browse through in a hierarchy.

But again, just an opinion. No right/wrongs here.

Edit: but you bring up a good point / variation on your point... What if you need some "and" and some "or" filters? Now it gets complicated...

It's pretty. Kind of like NodeRED, but in English and really it's more like Stringify that @klinquist used to work on.

I've made my case for that type of automation UI in the past, but I don't think the hub architecture can support it. I'm used to the current RM UI now, so it's less of a want and definately not a need.

Pretty much.

Although I would say it's like nodered, but really stripped down and dumbed down.

But that might be a cup half full cup half empty argument.

It would be a massive undertaking to move the functionality of RM into a graphic UI like that. And you're right about Homey's automation not being as powerful. Personally, I wouldn't be satisified with it.

I do 100% of my automation in node-red's graphical layout just fine.

Some of the things I do in node-red RM couldn't even do, really... And for some other things it would have been MUCH easier to do in RM than node-red, but I chose to keep everything together.

So there is no "easy button" I guess. Some things are better suited for structured rules, some for graphical, some for state machines, etc.

What for?
Hub will not be running, not enough power to keep it up.

As a tech user I agree with supporting many tags but my suggestion for just the one extra device Category tag was simplified to be appealing to all users. Plus it fits in nicely with HomeKit’s usage.

It avoids the logical constructs for multiple tags as Room will always be one hierarchy higher than Category. The two also can be partially and’ed together in an x-axis / y-axis screen display.

Just trying to keep it easier to implement and use.

Edit: plus a Category can almost be created as a default value based on the device type, lighting, heating, locks etc

Gobbs of more memory, or fix the memory leak.

From what I have seen, it reminds me of using LabVIEW in the mid/late 1990's. Neither good nor bad, just reinforces that there are many ways to accomplish similar outcomes.

Dashboards, dashboards, dashboards.

Take advantage of modern CSS and javascript tools to do things like drag & drop, pulling corners to resize, wrapping/floating the <div> tile to the next line (for desktop AND mobile use), color pickers, allowing pinch to zoom, etc. Use an experienced professional UI designer to mock up and pick starting fonts, colors, icon packs, etc. (Center-justifying elements is a design crutch and should be reserved for strict formality. See: churches & institutions, formal invitations, etc.)

I just saw another You Tube video extolling the "beauty" of the Homey app.
(I don't even have an Apple phone, yet I watch this fellow's videos).

It has been mentioned time and time again, in this thread, as well as many, many others, that a good App (Dashboard) will do wonders for a Home Automation product. That's how the majority rate a Home Automation product - on the basis of its App.
It's not that I think its essential, or even all that helpful, yet it remains in the minds of most that it is crucial to the product.
