Got some IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE temperature/humidity sensors. When I paired them to Apple Home they immediately did a firmware update. Didn't really need them in HE but to test I added a couple. They have been solid in HE, no problems. So IKEA has apparently figured out what to do. Now I wish they would get the other items updated...
That's interesting. ChatGPT tells me that although updating these devices through Apple Home is technically possible, but IKEA isn't doing it. But then said that the TIMMERFLOTTE may be an exception.
My MYGGSPRAY are at firmware 1.0.7. Anyone seeing anything later than that (might have to be installed via Dirigera or Home Assistant)?
For the moment, I think these MYGSPRAY devices are garbage.
P.S. I see that the GRILLPLATS Matter over Thread smart plug is now available $7.99. Ordering up because that's how this hobby works .. if someone sells you stuff that's garbage, it's probably because you need to buy more of their stuff.
It's such a shame that IKEA have gone down the Matter path before it is ready for showtime. The old Zigbee stuff was and still is good, shame they discontinued it. I'm still rocking my Zigbee bulbs, water sensors, smart plugs and buttons.
I'm showing that on mine.
I resurrected my PI with Home Assistant on it. When I add the device to it there is a firmware section with the option to update, IF one is available. At this point there isn't. So I will try periodically to see if there is one available. So hopefully I can update thru HA rather than buy one of IKEA's hubs.
The bulbs and remotes have a hidden way to add them via Zigbee (Some new IKEA Matter over Thread smart home devices have a hidden trick). The sensors appear to be Thread only.
Interesting, I might buy a button and have a play. See if I can sneak to IKEA without the Mrs - in and out military operation.
As if you aren't going to get caught for an hour in the spatula section... ![]()
So far so good with the GRILLPLATS plugs. Unlike the Onvis Matter over Thread plugs that I had, the GRILLPLATS are being used as routers. I don't know if that's an issue with the Onvis, or that for some reason the Thread network decided it didn't like them but is OK with the GRILLPLATS.
Finally the bilresa wheel trio (the colored ones) became available in my region. They connected easely with my HA OTBR and seems to be solid so far. Sharing them with HE was straightfoward even though @kkossev driver did not work as is. (maybe I got the wrong one)
I don't know if others had success with them because I found the wheel response to be painfully slugish. A rule to control a light does what it is intended to do but the delay and the speed is so inconsistent that they are anoying to use.
Good thing I have no use for them. I just bought them because I liked the colors.
Does anyone know how to determine when a firmware update to the IKEA devices is released? I tried to ask someone at IKEA and that was an excercise in futility.
Reason I'm asking. There was some discussion somewhere that Homekit may not be able to update them. I set up a PI with Home Assistant solely to use that as an update mechanism. When I pair one of the IKEA devices there it shows firmware and whether an update is available. But I can't leave it paired as it quits working after a few hours. So I just pair, check firmware, unpair. Kinda a pain.
I'm not sure this is true. If you search the the reddit Homekit page, you will see lots of folks that have been able to update their firmware via Apple Home. Sometimes this happens right away; other times it takes a while (speaking from experience with a different thread device).

I'm not aware of a driver other than the generic matter smartplug one so we're missing out on the energy monitoring features available on the Grillplats. Any idea if there's a driver available that can show that data?
I’ve never seen this smart plug described has having any monitoring capabilities.
"This plug also allows you to keep track of your power usage and adjust your daily routines to save energy."
That's right off the Ikea website. I've also seen screenshots of the Ikea app that show all the data.

I stand corrected. Cool. Is power monitoring data passed through Matter over Thread? [Edit: Reading the reddit thread further, it works in Home Assistant, so yes.] As far as I can tell Apple Home doesn't support power monitoring for this device either.
Sethharman - the Matter Advanced Bridge should be able to create a power monitoring child device for the GRILLPLATS plug.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
