Off topic I know but somewhat related to VPN... I’ve been using DynDNS for many years and it’s up for renewal next week and seems to be getting more expensive every year. What other options are you using and are you happy with them?
I'm using Dynu DNS. It's been very reliable for me and it's free
I use the free Dynamic DNS feature of my Asus router. It has worked well for me for years. I used to use DynDNS, until they started charging more than I was willing to pay.
I own a domain name with Google Domians.
One of the great features is the ability to create and maintain you own dynamic sub domains.
Awesome feature with it's own simple Api.
I use teamviewer, it is easy to access from anywhere and very secure.
I own my own domains with Godaddy and use a script to update the DNS records. There is an app somewhere here to update Godaddy. I have yet to look at it seriously.
I haven't looked at the cost of any dydn service in a while. With godaddy or something else with an API, it is just the yearly cost of the domain name.
I used to use No-IP which was good but then I found this one and started using this since it was free and I just need 1 basic DDNS. No-IP has a free service but you need to login to the account at least once a month or its disabled.
Only downside to this is it limits you to access specific computers where a VPN you have full control over you network.
You can access any computer that has it installed and you have full control of that computer. I have teamviewer on several of my computers and I can access them all from anywhere.
True but with VPN I do not need to have any computers running, either way its what works for you I just found using OpenVPN for my needs a more powerful solution.
I always have more than one way in. You can only access your VPN with your computer and VPNs can go down too.
I can access it with my phone or computer, and on PFsense I have never had it go down unless my internet was down.
I thought we were throwing out suggestions for @ritchierich but just for the record teamviewer has a phone app that you can access with also. Directly from phone app to computer.
Like @stephack, I'm using Google Domains. And for the same reasons.
I modified an online script to work with GoDaddy making my Domain provider a DDns solution.

I've been using them since DynDNS changed from free to pay for home use.
Thank you everyone for the recommendations. I just noticed/realized that DynDNS is now owned by Oracle and now understand price increase
